The Vancouver Canucks decided not to give Ben Hutton a qualifying offer.
Hutton had five goals and 20 points in 69 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season. He is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 now, but Vancouver is still open to re-signing him. "We’re still talking to his agent and trying to figure out a contract," Canucks GM Jim Benning said. "We’ll see how it goes this week because we still own his rights until July 1. We’re going to see if there’s common ground to work out a contract with him." The reason why they didn't provide him with a qualifying offer is because he came with a $2.8 million cap hit in 2018-19 and had arbitration rights, so a qualifying offer might had led to him getting a meaningful raise.

It's interesting that Pilut is in dev camp, about a month after he had shoulder surgery. I would assume he is there for the off ice stuff.

Probably too early to have announced, but will there be a prospect tournament like the last few years vs devils and pens and I think Boston

Teams may be different, but it was always fun and interesting to see where prospects are

And no Nylander. And I think this might be VO's 3rd or 4th dev camp.

Of the RFA's that I am aware of...... I'd be a betting man that Aho is the most likely to get a huge deal and Carolina be unable to match.

TB and TOR are both financially in places where they can match but Carolina is a team on a budget like Anaheim and can't afford to pay one player 10+M.

The bummer is that I would offer Aho 10.25M and give up the 2 1sts, 1 2nd, and a 3rd in a HEART BEAT... but we don't have the 3rd to do it.

If you offer him the max of $8.5M.. we still can't offer it but I think Carolina matches that too. I would imagine 10M is their cut off point of wanting to match.

Interesting goaltender prospect in camp, Matthew Welsh. He was very good in the Q for Charlottetown, posted solid numbers. He's only 5'11" and I think if he was 6'2 he would have been drafted. Scheel and Lackey had good college careers.

And I mentioned yesterday about Kyle Olson, a 4th rd pick of Anaheim in 2017 and put up 70 points last year in the WHL.

Surprised Casey and Nylander got passes? I feel like I remember Nylander was there but didn't participate last year. There were pics of him just sitting in the crowd with Botts I remember.

Guys who should F'n dominate:
Olofsson
Asplund
Tage
Pilut
Cozens
JJ

Guys who need to have a strong showing:
Borgen
Roustaleinen
Ryan Johnson
Davidsson
Samuelsson
Pekar

I'm not sure what benefit they or the Sabres get from having them there. They know what they have in those two already.

I would add Johansson and Fitzgerald need to show something positive as well, particularly Jonas.

It's definitely curious to see Tage and VO and no Nylander. I'd like to see comment on that. Or a trade.

if we still suck with eichel, dahlin, casey, marner, reinhart, skinner etc

there is no point being a sabres fan

If you think Marner is the final piece to this poop puzzle, I have a 100' yacht with 10 keys and 15 hookers to sell you for a buck.

Nylander I would agree with this...

Casey could use all the seasoning/experience but maybe it is experience needed against higher level competition.

I'd just want to see Casey getting chemistry working with VO and Cozens personally.

meh.. Jonas has always had a low ceiling. He's always been projected as a depth goalie. I'm hopeful that the Amerks, or even the Sabres for that matter, find a camp gem.

Sabres are looking for an interim #3 goalie, camp would be a great place to start. I think it's safe to say that the org wants UPL to be the full time starter before January. Not sure what they want to do with Jonas, start in Cincy or backup in Roch. If they want an org 3, they need someone on an ELC like a camp guy, or a 1 year UFA like Hutch or Pickard. Don't think they want Jonas sniffing the NHL.

I think they want Jonas in Rochester. When he was called up from Cincy he had some good games. I guess 6K and Jonas in Rochester but this kid Welsh might get an AHL contract if he plays well at camp.

Didn't Botts say they want a 3rd goalie? That would indicate more a UFA with AHL experience. I guess we'll see what they do. Wedgewood sucked last year.

That would put him at 220 lbs.

I just happened to look and didn't realize how well he played in Rochester after our season ended last year. He was such a tweener last year.
