Hughes might be the 1st overall pick but he's still a pretty small 18 year old. Slotting him into 2C and then putting 20 year old Jesper Boqvist next to him seems dangerous.
On top of that how much do we trust Jesper Bratt to stay healthy and productive for 82 games?
And can we really have two guys named Jesper on the team?
And if so shouldn't they play on the same line?
We need some real depth and if we can't get Donskoi or Nyqvist then even Perry or Simmons might be a good option.
I'm Ok with the D now with Subban. |

I'd avoid him at all cost, he looks completely shot and was invisible all last year especially after the trade to Nashville. He shouldn't get more than 1 or 2 year deal but he wont take that as this is probably his last chance to get a longer term deal, so some GM will likely offer him 3-4+ and thats a huge no from me. His physicality would be a decent addition but he's not the player he once was. Evolving Wild did contract projections for this off season and they projected Simmonds at 5x5. Yikes. There's so many other players i'd rather pay to play in a 3rd line role over him, let alone possibly bringing him in to fill a top 6 need. |

So, I looked at the list below of the Unrestricted Free Agents and the only two I would over pay for are the Bread Man and Lee.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/...free-agents-list-rumours/
I don’t want to overpay for anybody else on this list.
Trading is the way to go as there are still so many cash strapped teams. I would be calling Edmonton and Toronto every day to see what they want to unload in terms of salary.
Two of the few players I really want back are Boyle and Maroon. I know Maroon wants to be with his son so can’t blame the guy for that we’ll see.

I always wanted to see two players in the Devs lineup over the last 10 years: Simmonds and Kessler.
I would still take Kessler now but no to Wayne S as he is now a third liner and he will cost to much.
Give me Boyle for 1/3 the price. |

Boyle is pretty done and Maroon just won the cup and isn't coming to hang out in Newark. I'd have to agree on the trade idea. Maybe do something big for Kadri. I know he's a center which we don't need but he's fairly tough and skilled.
Also didn't Toronto just get rid of their first rounder to Carolina? They should be looking for deal.

Yep... call Toronto every day! Lee is pissed on the Island also, I don’t think Lou wants to sign him and Lee gets that Lou is treading water with him.
Lee is my target. I would over pay and I know he would have a chip on his shoulder for Lou not getting him done. Should be interesting.

I'd guess there is some appeal for a player to stay in the area and play for the Rangers or Devils. At the same time if Lou Lams isn't getting this done it's because Lee is asking for a huge payday. If that's the case I don't know if this is the guy we want to go all in on. Maybe. I think the analytic guys would have to figure that out. |

Lee is a decent player and would help, but the contract he's gonna get on the open market makes me want to avoid him. I dont think he's worth a max deal at around 7-8M+ per that he'll end up getting, thats just absurd imo |

exactly. he's not at all worth 7+ mil. I'd be happy with Nyqvist at 6mil for 3-5 years. |

Donskoi or Nyqvist, either way I'd be happy. - Pomegrant
Vancouver rumored to also hve intrest in him. He'd be nice fit on that 1st or 2nd line. |

Vancouver apparently talking to all free agents. Hard to keep track of what they are trying to do over there. |

Nyquist isn't a bad player to ask about. Giving Tyler Myers 7 years at 8 million per is BIG YIKES. |

With almost $25.8M in available salary cap space, the Devils aren't done adding to their roster. They had a couple deals on the table leaving Vancouver this weekend, as team pres Hugh Weber told us Sat, and are willing to eat salary, if they're enticed to do so.
I wonder what else Ray has up his sleeve |

Seabrook and a 1st.
Then get marner, giving up 4 1sts, and keep Chicagos.
Then buyout Seabrook. |

Nobody is buying out Seabrook because he has 5 years left on his contract and you'll just (frank) your cap situation for minimal relief comparatively. - Pomegrant
Im trying to think of a team that has to dump money or if anyone on devils is traded and we keep most of that salary. I can only think #6 and #19. |
