If Shero can add a decent top 6 winger, and they resign Hall, it will be as perfect an offseason as anybody could have reasonably hoped for.

Did you guys see that it looks like Hughes will wear #86? He signed a few fan's jerseys with that number and the Hughes family had a party with a Devils themed cake with a #86 HUGHES jersey on it. Guess he's going with 2 x 43. Too bad for the handful of people I saw who already bought #43 HUGHES jerseys...

I like the Richard Petty-esq #43 but no Devil has ever worn #86.

Brett Seney (2019) and Ben Thomson (2017 - WHO?) wore #43.

Whatever makes Jack happy.

Love Anders but at what term and dollars? I doubt he leaves the team he is captaining to sign a discount deal with a divison rival.

As long as the term isn't too bad we should be ok, hall has to be paid and Nico will get a decent raise but we are in a decent cap situation for the next few years (depending on other moves)

Lee would be nice

Anders Lee is a player I'd stay away from. He is not a possession driver and the seasons in which he scored 34 and 40 goals he had large shooting percentage spikes. If he didn't hit 30 goals again I wouldn't be surprised.

There are no discounts for the Devils. And really we need a RW and I think he’s plays C and LW. But if he hits free agency it’s worth a consideration.

25yr old Trouba would've been ideal to keep through his prime, but with PK, at least we have him in his prime, cap isn't an issue, and when he's 33 we can see where we're at in terms of cap and his play. Hopefully by then, Smith exceeds our wildest dreams and can be like a Duncan Keith. That's what I think of when I think of him.. based on the minimal play I've seen.

Not that there's all that much to choose from, but Nyqvist would be top of my list.. though I really wouldn't want to give him more than 6mil/4yrs. Dzingle would be #2 on the UFA list and would come cheaper, but meh. Panarin would simply cost too much to do long-term, with Hall, Hughes and Hischier destined to get big money deals.

I think Nyqvist's experience, consistency, skill, and still having some jump would be ideal with Hughes and Bratt or Palmieri.

or we could wait until 2020, as there's a much bigger crop of UFAs. But I think Hughes needs a Nyqvist right now.

That’s great that you’re all about hypotheticals but trouba didn’t want to play here. Get over it already.

Players that have a history of one good season and beg to be traded to nyc always turn out well.

either wing would be fine. Bratt can play either side. He was playing right side with Hall and Hischier for a while.
Not including Bratt, 2nd line LW depth is Hall, Zacha, Wood, Boqvist? RW depth is Palmieri, Coleman, Bastian, Anderson.. McLeod?

So really, we need either side. Nyqvist can play either side, and is left-handed. Hall, Palmieri, Nyqvist, Bratt are the top half wingers I'd like to roll.

Zacha, Zajac, Coleman, Wood, Bastian, Boqvist, Anderson, McLeod, Rooney, Seney, can all duke it out for bottom 6 positions, plus that guy we just traded for. 11 players to fill 6 spots, but we know it'll be Zacha, Zajac, Coleman and Wood for 4 of the 6.. leaving 2 spots (which may include a center AND winger) for Bastian, Boqvist, Anderson, McLeod, Rooney, Seney.

But the goal is for 4 of the 6 spots to have quality NHL players, since we're icing an NHL team. Zacha, Zajac, Coleman and I guess Wood fit that bill. Another reason to get a Nyqvist.. not to mention when our top players get injured.

I am over it. The post you quoted included positives of PK over Trouba. I was never going all out campaigning for Trouba so I'm over it. I was just thinking about the two players and what one over the other would entail for us. you're silly sometimes with your reactions to my posts lol.

I think it's more about the fans who keep talking about Trouba like we some how missed out despite the guy only willing to play for a single team. Same people were complaining when we didn't land Shattenkirk. We ain't got either of them so who cares about them.

I'm not trying to get on you, just saw a lot of people trying to dig on Subban for stupid poop. I'm really excited that Shero made a big move because this is the kind of stuff that keeps Hall around and makes us a real play off team.

Help the devs desperate RD needs in exchange for vats 50% retained. We would get Kapanens RFA rights.

Hall Nico Palms
Coleman Hughes Kapanen*
Bratt Zajac Doonskoi*
Wood Zacha Hayden

And our revamped, relatively young D core:

Butch Subban
Smith Severson
Greene Carrick

Not too shabby, and some quality prospects in the system
Shero gets another A+ on his report card!
Yzerman........yikes

Haha he really was over rated. PK's top 9 seasons all out-produce Troubas 2nd highest season. Factor in this safe 3 year contract ending when Subban is 33, and it's another big win for the Devs. Trouba is good for a lazy minor penalty every night it seems, and generally under-produces given his surrounding cast. This was an obvious upgrade in my opinion. I would have preferred to keep Davies, and send Vats their way, but obviously that was not going to get the job done.

Great trade, we got a player better player than Trouba. You've earned a cold soda Ray!

Thought kapanen was close to signing 3yrs 3.5 or something

Who knows but with Toronto getting rid of marleau's 6.5 that helps them out quite a lot

Davies is an unknown and his ceiling isn't near vats and vats has shown that he is our best defender (prior to subban) and severson while improved is very close to vats, our D got much better with subban but other than smith we don't have anyone who could step in this year

Vats had a rough year last season but really who didn't? Lets see how things shake out. Adding PK changes how we can set up our D and roll out better pairings. I'm not expecting to be among the league's best but I am hoping between this and better goaltending we can at least be league average.

By no means am I dumping on Vats. 2 years ago, he was our top D. But Severson is playing great while being signed long term and deserves that #2RD slot. There is no sense having Vats playing on the bottom pairing when he could potentially be a top 4 D on a contending team with a cap hit of 2.44M.

Vats is likely our most tradable asset now. And Toronto's only Righty D man is Zaitsev which has been a disaster. Shedding Marleau helped, but 13.5M to sign 5 forwards and 2 D is still way too tight when you look at their RFA and UFA's. They are fast approaching the worst D-core in the league, and I doubt they retain Muzzin after this season.
