Thats what I thought. A buyout was inevitable because you werent going to protect him in the expansion draft over one of the young guys. But buying out with one year left wouldnt have been so bad. Hard to believe he couldnt of played the 3rd line & some 2nd PP time. Just surprising how this went down.

For the 100th time, Perry would not need to be protected in the Seattle expansion draft.

You don't pay a player over 8M to play 3rd or 4th line minutes. As much as I loved Perry, it's a hockey business decision. There are players ahead of him now that need the top minutes, and any cap savings by buying him out can be used on other players.

I know. This has only been mentioned a million times, and people still post the two players need to be protected.

He could be a candidate for the leafs fourth line. Babcock loves size and grit on the 4th. Tyler Ennis signed for cheap to rebound with Toronto’s health sciences.
