I was at the game when he scored his 50th.

That was fun.

Hope he can get at least 12 more games somewhere. Could be a good league minimum, 4th line pickup for a contender.

Yeah it's a pretty reflective day for sure for us Ducks fans.
Obviously seeing him lift the cup is the best...

But the way he just took over in the last 40 games of 11 was unreal, just literally unstoppable 62 of his 98 points that year @ EV without the skipper, along with 104 penalty minutes, just domination ..

That 8 yr run between the cup and 15/16 avg 38 goals a year ... nice.

Way different players obviously, but it reminds me of when the Rangers bought out Girardi. Sucks when move on day comes, but you just remember the blood sweat and tears the player gave, and not a rough ending like this.

I’d like him for the 4th line on the Rangers. They need to get some leadership in their room

Maybe he goes to his favorite childhood team, the Habs?

This is going to start becoming the norm as it seems like GMs still give out insane contracts. Look at the Hayes ones. The Kings are in trouble because they can't really do a full rebuild due to insane contracts of Quick, Kopitar, Brown and Carter.

Good move for the Ducks though. Perry did a lot for them but no one will take on that contract for his current production.

Now that he is a free agent do you have any clue what price and term he will be looking for? Also does he want to stay on the West Coast? return to Ontario? go to a contender? just make the most money.

Forget why he is a free agent. But he is a free agent. He will be treated like one and a bidding war will begin in this silly season. He just turned 34, is a big, high motor power forward, with a dose of nasty, with a cup ring, an 8 time all star, a Hart trophy winner, with a Stanley Cup ring, that averaged 75 games and 55 points for the 3 previous years before last year (when he was injured and only played 31 games on an offensively challenged team - last in the NHL in goals for). With a full summer of training and further rehab he should be fully healthy with a chip on his shoulder. If you can sign him for 2 or 3 years at $4.5 mil+/- and put him with solid top 6 line mates he could out perform Kevin Hayes at about $2.5 mil per year less. Too low? Too high? Or just about right?

Funny thing about a similar feeling to when Girard was bought out is that he and Perry are former championship teammates too. They played together for the Memorial Cup winning London Knights.

Perry also just bought a new record setting home in London...

Had a good laugh when he squirted water into Carters glove during a time out in a playoff game a few years back...Loved him for team canada, hated him as a duck

I am very fond of my draft class all the players i watched play in the OHL has gone on to great things, so its a little sad to see them age out. I guess I am aging too.. ooops.

Doubt it is the end just yet for him and can see a few teams having some interest where he isn't the centerpiece. Think it will depend on price but just time for a parting of ways there given the contract and the Ducks needing to move forward.

Nobody can ever take away what he's done in the past but I think the game is now too fast for him.

I'm sure the Ducks didn't buy him out gladly, he's a legend in Anaheim after all but the management over there clearly saw the writing on the wall ... his best days are well behind him.

He's not going to get any faster at his age in order to adapt to this new faster NHL ... personally, I would prefer reserving a roster spot for a younger and faster player.

You might be too wise. My bet is that several GM's are not so wise. I think he will sign and for more money and term than most people on HB realize. (That is if his knee is ok and money and term are more important to him than the team, location and opportunity to win.)

Could be ... no one could ever deny that he's a great leader who has size and toughness and who can score. For the right price, I guess he could help some teams in specific roles.

Hey Steven! I wonder if you or any Duck fan could answer this. Why the buyout this year? He had a tough injury year & he just didnt get his game back. But the guy has always been a 50+ point player even as he aged. Why not wait until next year to do this buyout, Ducks are needing to reload or retool next year anyway, why eat the cap hit for twice as long? Is the injury worse than what is being let out & expectation is not there for him to rebound. Just curious. This isnt a small buyout.

He could be a candidate for the leafs fourth line. Babcock loves size and grit on the 4th. Tyler Ennis signed for cheap to rebound with Toronto’s health sciences.

Don't really know. The Ducks do have a logjam at Perry's position but a $4 million cap savings seems hardly worth that. The only thing that might make some sense is that Murray has a deal working and needed the $4 mil for that. It's a bizarre decision, especially since the owners really don't like paying people not to play.

Over 14 million in cap space. Yeah. I dare duck fans not to speculate. And that's not even counting Keslers LTIR coming off. Some RFA'S need to be signed. Mostly a back up goalie needs to be retained.

Gonna be hard to watch Perry play for another team. I can understand the need for roster space. But it's not going to seem right watching him play for another team. It's funny. What I remember the most about him was this game 2 years ago. It was just as his skating stride began to go. In Florida. And Getzlaf goes to the net with Perry trailing him. Getzy does his usual drop pass and Perry just lays into. I mean you could hear the boom of the stick as he did it (Because its Florida). And it just felt angry. Even the announcers called it an angry goal. Or the goal he scored in the playoffs against Edmonton in game 5 in Anaheim. The comeback on katela.

Thats what I thought. A buyout was inevitable because you werent going to protect him in the expansion draft over one of the young guys. But buying out with one year left wouldnt have been so bad. Hard to believe he couldnt of played the 3rd line & some 2nd PP time. Just surprising how this went down.
