Missed the boat since they traded larrson away. Defence has never been the same and now they have an often injured hall for only one more year, then he sign with the rangers. Have a good day. - oil90

Todd Cordell: The New Jersey Devils missed the boat on Jacob Trouba - Todd.Cordell
Don't disagree with you often Todd, but this was absolutely a dodged bullet.
The rumor was we would have to give up Ty Smith, who will likely shatter Trouba's 33 point high after 5 seasons in the leauge. And we certainly were not parting with our 1st rd pick. Just look at our 3 latest firsts: Nico, Smith, Hughes....
Yes, if Trouba signs an 8 year extension at 5.5M AAV, we missed a great opportunity to add a young RD on a reasonable contract. But lets face it, they guy will be overpaid in the area of 8M+, and has a LOT left to prove. The guy has long been rumored to be a locker-room cancer, requesting trades and holding out on contracts.
I do believe that Brooke's trade rumors were complete bs, or I would have went with Noah Dobson and a 1st from NYI. Trouba will be thrust into the lead role, where he will be exposed to his tendency to take unnecessary pim's. I project 8G, 28A, for 36 points, 78pims, -19 this coming season.
Good for Winni, they have an underrated RD ready to compete with Meyers for that 2RD position, and Sami Niku can develope one more year with the moose. Plus that 1st Rd pick could be another Kyle Connor, who knows. |

Philly did SJ a huge solid. They pick up an overpaid depth guy and give a 2nd and 3rd for him. Looks like they'l get their RFAs signed after all. - archromat
That move surprised me! I mean a 32 year old RD on his final year of an overpaid 3.8M cap hit. Sjs fans should be thrilled with that. Philly....what were you thinking??? He will be on your bottom pairing behind Sanheim and Niskanen. Odd trade. |

I'm assuming the jets wanted a good prospect like bratt or Smith and picks and shero hung up the phone..a wise choice imo..trouba is good but not THAT good..i mean his relative numbers (like corsi) are under 1..worse than butcher |

Agreed, I mean the asking price was WAY too much. Just rediculess. Lets not forget, Erik Karlsson was traded for Tierney, Balcers, and 19th overall selection Josh Norris. And EK had proven to be the best point producing D man over the past decade.
Trouba had one season above 33 points 6 years into his career.
Doing nothing was your best option Ray! Meyers is a UFA, Raslovic may be available, and Appleton would be a quality RW on this squad, Perrault is available, so let's look at other Jet options. |

Trade markets are hard to predict. We did better trading Boyle and Lovejoy then MoJo.

Ty is gonna pass that point mark his first season. Also no way Trouba signs for 5.5. He is greedy and known to hold out. He'll get at least 8. |

You’re nuts. Who signs for 6.8 years?
I’ll take the under on both. |

I have to give Shero benefit of doubt fir one huge reason on Trouba...maybe it would not be prudent to trade for another guy on his walk year..Maybe he knew he wouldn’t resign with us and at that point you would have Trouba and Hall in limbo...not a way to build a franchise..thats why I would welcome PK if that had a possibility of happening not that I would wager my paycheck we will get him but if we did he is only 30 and locked up for 3 years...that being said I think with the extra picks we have in the draft by Saturday a surprise name on D could fall to us given how many teams are fighting the cap...Hoping for a busy next 2 weeks and hopefully Hall resigning long term! |

Couldn't agree more. He was demanding 7M after his 32 point season. After notching 50, he will seek more. I am very excited for Smith. He is such a versitile D man, and with Davies and Walsh in the system, our D prospect pool went from a D- two years ago, to an A+. This honestly reminds me of the Canes two years ago.
People said John Carlson got overpaid with his 8M. After notching 20 points in 24 playoff games, he goes an puts up 70 points this past season. Those are the guys you give 8M too. Trouba's season totals go in order 29, 22, 21, 33, 24, 50.... So he is all over the map, and put up a whopping 1 playoff point this year, and has a total of 6 over 27 playoff games.
I think a fair deal for both teams would be 3 years at 6M AAV, but I expect an 8x8 contract to be announced shortly |

Dam,, first they give away Larsonn for peanuts and now they missed out on Trouba.... What coulda been... - oilpatch
IDK... the Devils gave up one more goal this season without Larsson then the Oil did with him. Not even factoring that our goalie was trying to come back horribly from hip surgery and KK decided he couldn't play anymore and we ended up with a rookie goaltender playing behind an AHL quality squad.... Just saying... Seems like a bit of the wrong conclusion on your part. Not saying I'm surprised.
Oh, we missed out on the Shattenkirk too and that seems to work fine considering he got benched on a Rangers squad with nobody on it... Just saying.... |

I don't know what it would take to get PK, but if the price is reasonable because of all the cap relief it seems like a good move. I mean he's a quality play driver and decent defender compared to some of our roster. He's great in the community and the team does play in Newark. I can't say it's worth doing without know what it would cost us but I sure wouldn't be dismissive about it.
If we are talking a second round pick and John Q, then (frank) yeah.... |

The Devils should absolutely call Toronto to try and swing a deal for Mealeau and Kapanen. |

I know. The Devils should tell him upon trading for him you can go back to San jose after we buy you out. The Devils have 34 million in avalble cap space. I doubt they use all of it. Marleau's buyout cap hit is 6 million for the year. |

It's not that I disagree with this sentiment, it's just how likely is Toronto going to give Kapanen away basically for free. Because nobody is sending real assets in this Marleau dump. |
