Would be interesting how they would fit him and the rest of the guys that need to be signed into the cap.

Gotta move on from players like Thornton & use the cap on the next wave. Tying up the cap isn’t wise & already let Marleau walk.

You'd have to think he likes playing there and the Sharks def has some pieces that can work.

People like to nit pick the guy... but he's a good as it gets back there. The only question for me is can he stay healthy finally.

I think we could very well have offer sheets this summer. Just not from LA to try and ruin SJ.

Good. I hope San Jose overpays him, so Tampa won't be tempted to.

He's not worth Doughty money any more. Maybe a few years ago, but not now.

He will get too much term and caphit.

Good luck with that.

I think the Sharks should offer him over market value but for a shorter term. Say $10M-11M / Yr for 4 years. That may be a win win for both sides.

Sharks win because they get a premier D-Man in a window where they could compete for a cup. Then if they have to retool in 4 years he can walk.

EK wins because his family wants to go back to the East coast. He will play here for top $$ for 4 years on a competitive team then go back east at the end of the contract. He could then sign a more cap friendly contract somewhere when he is 33/34yrs old. On average he may get the same $ he would get on a long term contract but this way he can pick two teams who have a chance at winning.

That is not a win for EK at all, his next deal wouldn’t be anywhere near 10-11 mil a season meaning he could be giving up 40-44 mil, and for what????

Kings should offer Pavelski a big money contract for 2 years. They could use a 2C to replace the rapidly declining Carter, and it has the added benefit of screwing over the Sharks. By the time the cap is an issue again for the Kings, Pavelski will be off the books.

If his family would rather live in the East, I doubt the Sharks have any chance at keeping him, even if they massively overpay him. As long as he has a financial advisor and listens to him, Karlsson has already made enough money to live pretty much any type of lifestyle his wants for the rest of his life and the generations of Karlssons to come.

There's really no difference if he's making 80 million to play for the Sharks or 65 million to play in the East. It's an ego and NHLPA pressure thing at that point.

Sharks give him $11M / 4yrs
Next Team gives him $8M / 4yrs

Averages out to $9.5M over next 8 years. Based on his injury history that is fair. Only risk for him is that he gets injured and doesn't perform.

hard to see more than 1. i think a lot of factors need to line up.

hawks may try and offer sheet labanc.

but wilson will probably move out braun before july 1 to shut down any potential offer sheets.
