He needs to make up for giving useless Nylander that contract.

And I get that Kadri was the odd man out and a jackass but player for player no contract for contract I think it's a massive win for Colorado

- gforce

Couldnt possibly disagree anymore. Bad trade for Colorado. Seemingly could have gotten more just holding onto him until the deadline.

Toronto got a defenseman coming off back to back essentially 60 point seasons for a guy they didnt want or need anymore.

I think Leafs stole this one...kadri is a loose cannon that has (frank)ed over his own team 2 consecutive playoff years..selfish player imo...I like Barrie...

I see your point, didn't realize he was that effective offensively. I still think it's a good deal for Colorado as they get a very good player at a great rate for 3 years whereas TO gets 1 year and they probably can't afford his pay raise.

Kiss my arse.😁
For all his shenanigans Kadri is a terrific player. We got a star that's been useless and selfish in the playoffs two years running and has probably deserved suspensions for being a retahd too. I don't love Durka but he has value. Plus they're gonna miss his jam

It's the Leafs anyway. Adding Tyson Barrie doesn't make me nervous at all

will see i guess...he gets hyped so much because he played in Toronto...dont really see him as 2nd line centre...anyway he is a wiener so i could be jaded..

Dubas bent Sakic over and went in dry on that Kadri trade.

Yuge win for Toronto on that one. Yuge.

Agree on the Nylander contract though ... That one hurts.

I really don’t get the ‘stockpile bottom line talent’ mentality. Giving guys 1-way deals when we already have guys in the system with 2-way deals who probably deserve/earned a look ... Christ, not to mention all they seem interested in drafting is those kind of players as well.

Ritchie seems like a potentially good fit for the 4th line and keeping the opposition honest. But Lindholm??? Just seems redundant/completely unnecessary. Jordan Caron 2.0

Heinen has elected a Salary Arbitration hearing. Charmin soft looking to get paid.

So what kind of $$ and term does Heinen deserve?

I’d be very very hesitant on anything north of $2.5 - $2.75 per season. In fact I’d draw a hard line in the sand at 2 years $5.5. 2 years, $5 million I think is a fair extension. Guess we’ll see.

Guy needs to shoot more and show some physicality... Even just a little.

Cehlarik also filed for arbitration apparently. Guess he’s looking for more than his qualifying offer. Guy looked fantastic with Krejci 2 seasons ago ... Seemed like he was the answer on that 2nd line wing. Not sure what happened. Cassidy seems to have him on a very short leash, and hasn’t been afraid to go public with his comments on Cehlarik which I don’t think benefits anybody. Seems like he doesn’t like the player, and seems like Cehlarik plays scared to make a mistake.

Losing Johansson to Sabres for 2 years at 9 million total is rough. (frank)ing Backes contract.

Christ, guy signed for lesser $$ and lesser term than his last contract.

Great deal for the Sabres ...

Cehlarik signed, 1 year 2-way deal at league minimum with $125K at the AHL level.

He’s waiver eligible though ... Wouldn’t be surprised if another team grabs him if he doesn’t crack the roster out of camp.

Alright alright some high quality conversation in here the last week or so

Here’s a scenario: We find a team willing to take on Backes’ contract. They want Danton Heinen in return.

Do you do it?

yes

that $6m of dead space is killing the chances of improving the team while the window for the core group slowly closes.

Agreed. $6 million + whatever Heinen gets ($2.5-3) frees up a hell of a lot of money to essentially replace Heinen’s spot in the lineup. There’s your 2nd line winger right there.

If you want to trade Heinen to clear Backes contract there has to be someone really really good already in place to use the money on. Wouldn't do it just for the sake of having the free space to use on just anybody who might become available

And what then are you willing to give up to get that player and who could it be?

I think Heinen, a very good 3 rd liner who's proven he can slide up when necessary, is great value at under 3. Swiss Army knife in the Axelsson mould.

With Backes and Heinen gone (hypothetically), we could probably sign both Ferland and Dzingel, and have enough left to re-up Chuck and Carlo.

Instantly better roster ...
