What did Holland get himself into.. regardless of Keith’s management experience, this is full on organizational nepotism! As if there isn’t a better assistant than Keith Gretzky.. with Holland’s YEARS of management experience, you’re telling me he wouldn’t want to hire his own guy? The Oilers will never be a good team as long as the 1980’s Oilers have control! And that’s not going away any time soon.. calling it now lol McDavid to the Leafs as a UFA in 2027! :S |

Holland seems to be flawless thus far. Keeping the good guys and turfing the incompetent ones.
In:
Tippett
Gretzky
Woodcroft
Out:
Hitchcock
MacT
Coffey
Sutter
Viveiros
Yawney (probably the only guy I'd keep)
Once the draft is over, Holland will likely fire a bunch of scouts.
Very solid start.

Completely agree.
Terrible signing.
Yet another name associated to antiquated Oilers thinking.
Lets bring back someone with a name the fans trust.
Pretty sure the Bruins would like a do-over on those 6 picks in the first 2 rounds back in the 2015 draft that Gretzky botched. He's a terrible evaluator of talent.
2/6 is not good |

Umm, there have been plenty of articles noting how dysfunctional the Bruins were at the draft. Keith Gretzky did not have full control. Sweeney was meddling and shot down the Barzal pick based on his player interview. Zboril was a consensus pick in that range and was a bust. Gretzky picked Debrusk who turned out to be solid. Zenshsyn was the bizarre pick and rumoured to be opposed by Gretzky. He then hit on Carlo, McAvoy. Pastrnak is also OK. Haha.

What is your D line-up going to look like?
Klefbom Larsson
Nurse Bouchard
Sekera Bear
That looks best to me: however leaves Russel (4M), Manning (2.25M), Benning (1.9M), Persson (1M) alll on the outs.....Mantha and Samorukov seem to be contenders as well for a roster position. Certainly some promising cheap prospects, and most your D are off the books in 2 seasons, just curious what this season will look like. |

I don’t mind Gretzky as an AGM....he has done good on the amateur side of things so no issues there.....Woodcroft had an excellent season with the Condors and I’m glad he will be coaching them again next year instead of running off to Todd’s side in LA |

No way Bouchard cracks the line up this year....Holland will keep him with the Condors....if anyone is making the move up it will be Jones and possibly Lagesson

Ya I haven't watched much Oil hockey. Bouchard seems like a quality prospect, so sliding his entry level contract is not a bad idea at all. Don't know much about Jones or Lagesson, but it appears they are both LD, so looks like Russel will be getting big minutes unfortunately. |

Omitting Jones and including Mantha- who hasn't played hockey in more than a year thanks to a severe eye injury and was a bottom pairing AHL guy when he did play- tells me you ought to try to do a bit of research yourself. To answer your question, we're realistically looking at something like this:
Klefbom- Larsson
Nurse- 2RD acquisition
Sekera- Benning
Persson, Jones*
Lagesson*- Bear
Lowe- Bouchard
Samorukov- Day
Neither Bouchard nor Bear make the roster off the hop without monumental improvements. If we can't manage to find a 2RD, Sekera likely steps in and acts as a stopgap while Lagesson or Jones step into the bottom pairing with Benning. |

A lot can happen this off season so it’s hard to predict what the blueline will look like....I’m sure if Holland can move Russell’s contract this offseason it will happen....Jones has top 4 potential and has spent a lot of time playing on the right side....I hear Sekera can also play on the right side as well....predicting the blueline will be much easier after July

If it comes down to it I think Sekera would be a great partner for Nurse....defiantly an upgrade over Russell and as you said could serve that purpose till Bouchard is ready

Yeah, but not worse enough to justify the difference in assets we'd have to give up to get Pesce. If I'm given the choice between sending a 2nd and a prospect for Gudas or sending Nuge(+) for Pesce, then I know which one I go for.
Pesce has been killing top pairing minutes alongside Slavin, but it's hard to tell if that can be replicated here with either Klefbom or Nurse. Klef is stylistically comparable to Slavin, but that isn't a guarantee. Gudas has a history of killing 2nd pairing opposition alongside an offensively inclined LD and Nurse fits that mold pretty well given his EV production the last 2 years. Still not a guarantee, but an easier bet to rely on given the role isn't AS vital. |

Excellent moves. Keith had revamped the farm system in a short time. Now he has full control of minor league system. Holland is def proving his worth so far and the best is yet to come. |

So there's a theme surrounding unproven/unknown young(ish) goalies stepping into the league and carrying team's into contention and even Cup wins. First was Cam Ward, then it was Niemi, now the last four years have featured two in Murray and Binnington. Not like it's something you should count on, but it does provide more of a counter to conventional logic surrounding Cup-winning goalies. |
