Doesn't matter. The point was there are players to be found in the late rounds.

It takes a stroke of good luck. It does happen, yes, but not often enough that it should create second thoughts about an NHL-level move.

The statistical odds of a 5th round pick ever playing a single game in the NHL are less than 10 percent. The odds of the player becoming an NHL regular are a fraction of that, and the odds of him becoming an impact player are statistically less than 1 percent.

I think what’s bothering people is that:

1. It’s not for a player they wanted

2. It very well could be a pick traded for absolutely nothing.

I’m not going to debate if I think Hayes is the right fit, it’s been beat like a dead horse. But I will say I commend them for being aggressive to try to get the player they targeted.

1 - He 100% helps in the short to mid term, right player or not.
2 - Bills explanation renders a fifth round pick to nothing.

Of course. I get it. The way I'd equate it would be buying a ticket for the 500 million dollar lottery, and losing your ticket before the drawing.

It's not nothing, it's a long shot. I would have preferred it to be a conditional pick, but whatever.

"2018: The Flyers discussed various trade ideas with other teams at the 2018 Draft in Dallas but ultimately stood pat except for a 7th round pick swap. "

I mean, I'm sure there's a reason, but why would teams even do 1-for-1 swaps of 7th round picks? That seems like making a trade for the sake of making a trade. I guess I could see where none of the remaining players were scouted, so you move on until next year, but 7th rounders have to be extreme long shots to ever even play one game in the NHL.

Giving up draft picks and overpaying for players like Kevin Hayes is bad business.
July 1 should be a real hoot.

- PLindbergh31

dont worry we only gave up a chance to get a player like Pavelski, Benn, Timonen, Bondra, Tocchet to get the rights to a guy that doesn't seem like he wants to be here

You know when you see an advertisement for a casino, and they have a picture of a guy winning money? That's false advertising, because that happens the least. That's like if you're advertising a hamburger, they could show a guy choking. "This is what happened once."

The tweet doesn’t worry me. Arizona is pretty set at Center and if CLB loses Panarin, Bob and even Duchene, he’s better off playing with Flyers if we wants a shot at winning. Negotiation tactics imo

I'd rather just lose the draft pick then overpay. The loss of the draft pick is the lesser of two evils. I'm trying to figure out how this will play out.... I'm going with they overpay Hayes, he turns out to be an albatross, and the Jets end up drafting a solid NHL player with the pick. They draw to an inside straight.

We're seriously still debating sending a 5th rounder? We have like 10 picks in the draft

I too only view things through the lense of absolute worst case scenario. That's why I don't leave my bed. Too many bad things outside

Well, if the 5th round pick is worth next to nothing, then what is a 7th worth? They probably waived it in the air and asked if any other team wanted this worthless POS.

it's more concerning if a player chooses CLB or ARI over Philly

What if they choose Sunrise Florida over Philly? That hockey hotbed where not a single shuffleboard playing, farina eating, depends poopting, person gives a rat (frank) about hockey.

Ah yes, because players only consider the quality of city when choosing where to play. That's why every free agent ever has gone to NYC or LA.

Edit: Don't you think Columbus interests him cause he thinks they're gonna lose Duchene and he can be a 1c there? Oh, I forgot you're allergic to critical thinking
