Pettersson's contract will fall between 1-2M? Way to go out on a limb.

From the previous blog:

It seems they always say everyone wants to sign with the Rangers. Yet they really don't have an all-star line up. They have also stated how Duchene wouldn't leave Ottawa or CBJ, but now the front runner is Nashville. I think if Trouba did come to Pittsburgh, JR would probably ask to negotiate on a long term deal before he pulled the trigger on a deal. Maybe a deal with a package of Schultz going the other way would do it for WPG.
- 123Kid

TIOPS stated JR may be willing to take the gamble with no prior negotiation. I do agree though, if the Pens dealt for Trouba that Schultz would be going the other way. Now, if JR pulled off some kind of brilliance keeping Schultz and moving Gudbranson? That would be amazing.

Having Letang, Trouba and Schultz as your 1-2-3 RDs? Ahhh, it's nice to dream lol.

WPG will be in a weak position however if Trouba doesn't want to sign more than one year, so the return may not be close to what they're looking for.

It said 2 impact players and a pick for Trouba. Seems like a lot for a possible rental.

I would hope that JR would lay SOME ground work for an extension at that price.

I mentioned that in the previous blog, but yes, 2 impact nhl players + high pick for Trouba, but it also mentioned they may be looking for a prospect-heavy deal which would put the Pens would of the running.

It said he'd be willing to take a gamble on only getting him for one year. Now, this is a double-edge sword. Let's say the deal sends Hornqvist + Schultz + 1st for Trouba + a little something extra, i.e. bottom-six player, later pick, etc... Next let's say Trouba only signs one year, but hey, they get a one year out of Trouba he helps the Pens go deep.

After that year, the Pens are free of Hornqvist's salary which is a plus, but now they have a void at RD and who knows who will be available, and yes, they gave up ANOTHER 1ST.

If Trouba is going to refuse to pre-negotiate I have to think this puts WPG at a major disadvantage and they're not going to get that ask.

Winnipeg is also capped out

They would want “impact players” with low salary

Doesn’t everybody?

Maatta or Schultz, Rust or McCann and a 1st would be more likely

They're definitely in cap trouble. Rust+Schultz+1st would be more than fair and free up enough room for the Pens to sign Trouba.

Personally, if Trouba refuses to sign a long-term extension I'm giving one impact player and a 2nd. The Pens don't have a 2nd, so something comparable.

Honestly, zero desire to dish out high quality assets and then a huge contract for Trouba. He is a really good player but the cost is going to outweigh the benefit with him.

For what he is going to get paid I'd rather resign Schultz and keep the 1st/prospects.

What is/are the benefit(s) of being a "season ticket holder" on hockeybuzz?

How do you become one?

I’m torn. If Schultz is going to re-sign for a reasonable contract, say $6 to $6.5 then yeah, I agree. If he’s hunting for $7+? I’d rather get the younger player for $8.5M.

I'll go a step further and say if Schultz wants north of 6.5 and Trouba wants 8.5, I want neither.

There are just so many moving pieces to consider. Just don't want the Pens to kneecap themselves on a non elite player.

If Trouba isn't willing to sign here long term, I'd pass. Love the player, just don't want a 1 year rental. That kind of move shortens a window for a team that should be exploring extending it.

I agree. Trouba is a good player, but not as good as his rumored cost to acquire and extend.

LOL, I have no idea!!

I became one because I got locked out of HB and apparently the only way to get back in was to give EK $20 and voila, I became a season ticket holder!

Shy of that, nothing. Well...other than grief from my wife, who constanty asks me the exact same question.

Rutherford to Yohe....

“I think that’s the way things are headed at this point in time,” Rutherford told The Athletic. “I expect Kessel will probably play for Pittsburgh next season.” “You have to understand that he has a no-trade clause and a lot of leverage,” Rutherford said. “In situations like this, it usually doesn’t work out so well for the team. That’s just the way it is. So, at this point, it looks to me that he will return at this season. That’s how I’m proceeding moving forward.”

Interesting, could be true, could also be an intentional quote to try and get teams to up their offers.

Fine with Kessel staying. The D is where the help is needed. Find a sucker to take JJ. Move Maatta.

But PLEASE don’t give up young forwards / depth any kore. There is little left.

Oh definitely. Now is the time to play that card.....right before the draft. The next couple of weeks will be really interesting with all the movement.

This is all well and good until everyone is complaining that the Pens don’t have a legit #2 PMD/Offensive dman. You’re not getting off cheap unless you luck into picking a guy up in a similar situation to when Schultz first came here.

I don’t want Kessel moved.

Maybe this means Hornqvist goes up on the block?

Hornqvist has a full NTC for the next 3 years.
