Wasnt Berglund part of the deal? And he basically walked away from the game.

If Rutherford made that trade heads would explode here. Took on Sheary and Hunwick for 5.25 too. Yikes.

Now he's getting cornered on Skinner for 8+ a year for 7 or 8 years.

Why did Botts trade ROR? Did he really need to?

The guy is two way monster faceoff master who's finding his O game at the absolute best time.

Rumor was it was ownerships call, not necessarily Botts

7.5 mill for a guy who can hold down 1st or 2nd line C mins, who puts up 60 points, dominates faceoffs, plays a really strong two way game and kills penalties is a fair price IMO.

Extremely fair value contract for ROR. Anything above a dominant 60 point performance is value added

I think he is a really good player that is being overpaid. I think Matthew's was able to get what he is making because Tavares signed for so much. Now Marner might be better than both... is he going to take lass than $11M and be happy?

Look at how badly Dubas handled the Nylander situation... kneecapped one of their best players. Put himself in a really bad position going into Marner negotiations.

Now they are looking at having their 2nd best D walk for nothing, their 3rd best D asking for a trade, a guy who is a great deal in Kadri on the trade block to free up cap space and looking at giving up assets to move Marleau. Not saying they are in the worst situation but it's not looking good.

Again though, Lou gave Marleau that contract. I also don’t think the Nylander contract is bad, just seems too early to tell and he was awesome at the WHC. Other players have held out as well. I think the Leafs are going to be fine and I think JTs contract was earned

I would also say that JT isn’t really the measuring stick for AM, which was talked about at length on TSN and SN. The measuring sticks were McDavid and Eichel

Kinda funny timing. I think it was Grinder yesterday taking the position that it should all be about money but for a lot of these guys but it’s not. More and more it’s about the whole package of friends and family. It’s a Fellowship.. time to watch LOTR

Nylanders contract is fine. I was more commenting on Dubas playing chicken with him and ending up with one of their key players who had a really rough season and struggled in the playoffs.

TO is reminding me of the Blackhawks after they gave Toews and Kane matching huge contracts. They are going to struggle to put together a good team around the huge contracts.

Tavares contract is fine at the moment but when you are paying him $11m in 3-7 years it's going to be tough to swallow.
