Cap friendly states that he plays all three forward positions. Wish we could pull it off somehow. I like his game a lot, he just stands out a lot for me. Honestly I would totally do 5.25 but that 6x6 seems like an awful long time to gamble - Chuck-Norris
He is a zone-entry champ. |

MARCUS JOHANSSON Should definitely be on our list. I wonder what his asking price is? Anyone want to take a guess? - Chuck-Norris
Charlie Coyle was the guy I wanted the Pens to acquire all the way. He’s been fantastic this postseason. |

Maybe if they move out some cap space. I would not mind signing him at all. I think he could bring something different to the team |

He's 28 so probably going to want term. Id say 5.5 to 6 per. |

I think there are some GMs who are going to burn themselves this off season with free agents.
If Skinner gets 8.5-9.5 Botts should get fired on the spot.
Dubas has buried himself. Signing Tavares for $11m was an overpay and is also costing them extra money on the Matthew's and Marner contracts.
MoJo, Zuccs, Hayes, Lee, Eberle, Nyquist I hear rumors that they will all get +$6-7m with significant term... I like all of these guys but it sounds like a trap getting locked in with term.
I'm hoping JR lays low a bit and see who hangs out for a bit and sees who can become a value signing. |

When Hornquest is at $5+ all those guys can justify $6+ easy. |

I disagree on JT. AM34, Marner, Point, etc are all going to get paid handsomely. Doesn’t Matthews have the most ES goals the last two seasons? I just saw something like that on Twitter. He is an elite goal scorer and unlike Laine the other areas of his game aren’t lacking either. Rumor is Laine will explore offer sheets if he isn’t offered $10MM
I’m not a Leafs fan but I love the JT signing. He’s a fantastic hockey player and it didn’t cost them anything but cap space to get him. He’s without a doubt a 1C. The Zaitsev and Marleau signings were Lou signings, so IMO he put the team in cap trouble moreso than Dubas. Still, having too many good players is a good problem to have. The Leafs are going to be fine
I would say the stickiest situation is Vegas because they have that Clarkson contract and they 100% have to ditch it which drives up the price. On top of that it’s rumored they’re looking to ship out a forward and a defensemen. Only contract TO will have issues shipping out is Marleau and if they package him up with Kadri or one of their higher end 3rd liners I think they’ll be fine |

Why did Botts trade ROR? Did he really need to?
The guy is two way monster faceoff master who's finding his O game at the absolute best time. |

Yes. That contract will not age well at all. I'd walk away if that's what he's demanding.
Think about this... Bots traded O'reilly (possible Conn Smyth winner) and his 7.5mil contract for a bunch of salary dumps and lottery tickets. Now he's going to over-pay for a 60pt player. Genius! Clearly, Bots was the brains behind our recent cup wins. |

O'Reilly makes $7.5M and didn't put up more than 61 points in his three years with Buffalo. I'm not saying he wasn't doing really good things away from the puck, but he wasn't worth his contract.
I've always been a fan of his game, but he was always overpriced. This is the first year he's really looked like more dominant player people hoped he'd be. |

I'm not one of these "botts was the brains" guys here, but I do think he's doing a good job. Buffalo has some seriously good talent in the pipeline and I think Botts is being patient. He's got some not-so-good contract coming off the books soon and he's going to have a lot of room to surround his young players with really solid players.
There are just two things I think he can do to make sure he doesn't (frank) it up:
1) Don't sign Skinner for a penny more than $7M.
2) Buy out or find a way to move Okposo. |

7.5 mill for a guy who can hold down 1st or 2nd line C mins, who puts up 60 points, dominates faceoffs, plays a really strong two way game and kills penalties is a fair price IMO. |

I was clamoring for the Pens to trade for him... OReilly is a great player, I really didnt get the urgency in trading him, let alone settling for the return they got. |

Let's put that in perspective...
If ROR was playing HERE, fans would be screaming that he wasn't putting up 70+ points a year.
Again, I'm a fan of his, I agree with all the strengths you point out aside from holding down a 1st line. He's a $6.5M player IMO.
EDIT: This is the first year he's lived up to his contract. He's been a better player than he's been his entire career, so I can't fault Botts with hindsight. |

I think he is a really good player that is being overpaid. I think Matthew's was able to get what he is making because Tavares signed for so much. Now Marner might be better than both... is he going to take lass than $11M and be happy?
Look at how badly Dubas handled the Nylander situation... kneecapped one of their best players. Put himself in a really bad position going into Marner negotiations.
Now they are looking at having their 2nd best D walk for nothing, their 3rd best D asking for a trade, a guy who is a great deal in Kadri on the trade block to free up cap space and looking at giving up assets to move Marleau. Not saying they are in the worst situation but it's not looking good. |

For teams that don't have a luxury of a Malkin, he's the perfect 2C. I didn't understand the move either. You don't trade away good centers in this league. |

7.5 for a 60+ point center. Good in all 3 zones. That's a bargain these days. Botts didn't have the foresight to realize his contract would age well. I didn't understand why they traded him......although I admit I don't watch many Sabres games. |

From what I remember he was very vocal about the team being content with losing. Apparently he was a cancer in the room. |
