All I have to say is that is not a good impression to leave with any coach, especially when you are sucking badly the whole season. Now if it's working, no need to change it, but two out of four years says it all.

Reading between the lines: ghost is uncoachable imo

I forget if it was Hakstol or Gordon, but one of them did the same exact thing during the season...they mentioned all defensemen except for Ghost during the season (which really turned the trade rumors on fire).

And it hasn't just been mentioned this year. I can only imagine what some teammates think....

Correct me if I wrong didn’t ghost also say he doesn’t want to change or something to that effect not to long ago. I don’t remember the exact quote

Honestly I don't remember that quote, but the fact he always gets left out when asked about the defensive group says a lot.

The other two seasons were flat out elite, so...

Gotta be on a high wire to be a game breaker from the back end. It takes a long time to find that perfect balance of risk/reward. Meanwhile, coaches and fans will poop all over you, non-stop.

See: Dan Boyle, Sandis Ozolinsh, Brian Leetch, Erik Karlsson, Mike Green, etc.

Here are some of the quotes.

Gostisbehere rediscovered himself by being himself.

"It's pretty cliché but I just said I'm going to go out there and have fun. I'm going to make plays and I don't care if I get yelled at," he said with a smile, "but I'm going to play my game and make my plays. People can look at is as risky but most of the time it works out for me."

Starting to see some red flags with this guy.

I will reserve judgement because context matters, and I don't know all the context.

Most defensemen tend to say that their focus is on playing good defense and then their offensive game follows suit. If I recall correctly, Ghost basically said the opposite about himself. That he focuses first on his offense and when that's going well, his overall confidence is up leading to better all around play.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure all this talk about Ghost seems to totally contradict what was said about his character coming out of Union.

Watching Krug play in Boston he is really effective defenseman with a lot of offense, I would love to see Ghost get his 2 way game to that level. No reason he couldn’t be as good.

But all these articles out there about his attitude and not being coachable make me think he may get traded.

I don't know how much I buy into the Ghost rumors and how much I discount them. There is clearly some smoke to this theory...but was Ghost disenchanted under Hakstol and just could not get out of his funk? or is there an internal pressure for him to turn into a smaller PK Subban that he is not comfortable with?

Considering what he is signed for and his upside, he is a very valuable commodity.

Well I’m glad this is a shock to all of you. I’ve been calling out Ghost’s game since his rookie season. Back when that scouting Genius Mononoke was calling Shayne Gostisbehere a future number one defenseman and the pair of Ghost and Gudas will be a dominating top pair. The best in the nhl.

Ghost’s speed and what he can do with the puck is undeniable. His play with the puck is horrid. Going back to all the mocking of someone calling Ghost a third pair defender. I’ve never said this myself but it’s Definitely not a reach.

The only positives to having Ghost on this team is, his deal is reasonable, He’s still in his mid 20’s and he has an outstanding offensive resume. It’s unfortunate but he has a really unbalanced game.

That would be me. Ive always said he would make an ideal 3rd pair guy who gets heavy PP time.

And in fact if that is where he ends up, it says less about him and more about how deep our top 4 could be with Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Hagg, Morin all ready to be with the big club IMO.

This is one way of looking at it...or Ghost could just not be a good defensive defenseman, so the bar isn’t that high.

To me, his quote is a positive. Confidence is so important to success in sports. If Ghost thinks he has figured out how he has to play to be successful; great! Now it’s up to the coaching staff to figure out how to make that work for the team. He’s such a dynamic offensive talent. Some guys are the exception and You just have to let them do their thing.

When the player is a -20, I don’t think you just let him do his own thing.

I believe there is a good chance ghost is traded. I also believe there is a good chance they don't get fair value. I'd prefer to give him another year.

Honestly, AV's history with Keith Yandle doesn't bode well for Ghost.

Honestly the way I read Ghost's quote is that success will follow him by playing a confident game, which for him is anticipating the play and jumping into routes, turning defense into offence. When he's playing well and with confidence, he is absolutely elite in this respect.

However, if he second guesses himself for a half second, then he gets caught in no man's land. His game is what it is... High Risk, High Reward. I doubt that any coach will succeed in making him the epitome of a 2-way defender. I don't think they should.

That's the essence of his quote. He has to play his game if he's going to be effective in this league. I don't disagree with him quite honestly. This doesn't make me a defender of him either. Perhaps a team doesn't want to have a player like that on their team. I can understand why. He doesn't play the tradition role of a defense man. He is however a beta version of a new type of defense man in the NHL. Take his pluses with his minuses or don't have him on your team... just don't try to make him something he's not.

Just have to wonder when is the point where the player might need a change of scenery
