I think the idea that the Wild can make a move or two and suddenly be a contender is a very optimistic one. They were something like 50 behind the goal differential of most of the teams doing well in the playoffs.
At the same time, Wild defense is solid, Dubnyk is capable. If Wild could package their 1st round pick with Rask & Foligno in a pure cap dump trade, then sign Duchene & Panarin, & all their RFA's in the 28m of cap space they'd have, I think they'd have as good a shot as anyone in the division. I'm not sure that's realistic, but Wild weren't front runners for Parise & Suter either.
Wild need a couple game-breaking, top line forwards. They have plenty of guys who would flourish if they were the secondary scoring, not what their opponents were focusing on defending.
