Meltzy my boy. Up before the crow of the first Rooster. A true American hero Bill the Thrill.
Speaking of roosters, Joe Thornton.
Don't forget to pour one out for Hoyda today me boys. A true fighting spirit that one, like the pirates of the Black sea that sailed of old. The black sea, darker than the souls of the red coats culpable for doing in Nathan Hale, poor boy. |

Been trying to watch Ratcliffe a lot during this tournament.
He has the size, and the hands, and certainly seems to know where to be on the ice. However, if he doesn't solve this streaky part of his game, he wont be too successful in the pros. If you are streaky playing against children, imagine how streaky he will be playing against men. |

Great point. Way too undisciplined thus far it seems. |

I live in Guelph so I have seen him playing quite a bit. I would not be too concerned about the discipline. I am not certain he has the explosiveness or talent to be an impact NHL player though. |

I think if newhook is there at 11 he’s a must draft. Too much potential and too much talent to pass up |

The talent is there. Agree about the explosiveness. He isn't slow at all when he's at top speed but he needs to get there faster in the first stride or two. Thankfully, that is something that is workable.

Mock drafts have the Flyers all over the place: Boldy, Soderstrom, Krebs and Zegras. I think they move the pick in a draft day deal. |

After the top 2 it really is a crap shoot draft. Just depends on what teams need or want.
I think Turcotte goes higher and I see Podkolzin possibly dropping. |

Fletch's tenure w/ the Wild saw them go for a lot of 200-ft safe picks.
Flyers should be swinging for the fences at 11. |

Do you get perturbed when elitist Americans don't pronounce it Gwelph?
If you question his talent I'd question how much you've watched him play. Plenty of folks in Idaho who couldn't tell the difference of a Russet Potato from a Yukon. |

What's swinging for the fences?
Who would that be in this draft? |

1) It's when a batter in the sport of baseball puts an emphasis on putting more power into his swing, disregarding contact, in an effort to hit the ball over the fence.
2) Kaliyev, trading up for Caufield.
3) As to if bringing up Fletcher's past history in a manner absent of evidence has any bearing on advocating this, or if it is a sound strategy... meh

Absolutely swing for the fences
Problem is this playoffs has been a 200 ft orgy |

Was Morin a swing for the fences or would that be a project? He could have been looked as a huge upside project pick. Or are we saying one dimensional goal scorer/all offense type. |

Not sure if your playing with me on this.
1. Understand
2. Is Caufield so dynamic that you would move 1st and other pieces or piece to move up? I like Kaliyev but there are other guys there that to me bring more and bring some great speed with the puck.
3. I think he had a little different situation in Min. So I am not exactly sure you can look back and know what he will do with the Flyers. |

I think both.
He was a project that if hit could be a swing for the fence pick. |

Simply being a proponent of "swinging for the fences" without adding specificity or qualifying the statement is frankly silly.
For one it isn't a sustainable methodology to acquiring enough talent to have a winning hockey club. The nature of the sport now is you need good players across the board. How has Edmonton looked of late?
Are we talking about a player who is 20%/10%/70% 1st line 2nd/3rd line Bust, if so no way in hell. Or are we talking about 20%/40%/40% if so you have my attention. But that player tends to be in the top 5.
Couturier, Giroux, Konecny, Lindblom, Provorov, Farabee, Carter, Richards all drafted and homegrown productive players none in the mold of "swing for the fences"
Zacha and Dal Colle were recent "swing for the fences" type players. How are they looking relative to those drafted around them?
Peyton Krebs is by most accounts projected as safe bet to be a second or third line player and a responsible centreman at that, much needed in today's NHL. I'll take that projection over a guy with a good chance to still be stuck in Lehigh Valley in five years.

Could be an interesting draft because it’s so wide open after the first two kids. Have no idea who they should pick because the possibilities of who’s still on the board are wide open. |

I'd say Caufield is that dynamic. Typically elite goal scoring at that level does translate, and even with outliers occurring it's a chance I'd take. If people are hung up on the size factor they are living in the past imo. Production translates.
I don't have a great read on what Fletcher will do but my best guess would be he used the pick on one of those patented 200 ft players. I also would not be surprised if he ships it for a current NHL player. |

Slice it anyway you want. Safe picks in drafts have not panned out and home run types have not as well. I’ll be more specific, I believe the flyers need to target skill and skating ability above all else because I believe they lack it throughout the organization. Enter newhook. Home run, double, whatever you call it
Who are the prospects that may be at 11 that you are highest in? |
