It's pretty easy to look at going rates and see comparable trades around the league. It's not hard to see what the value is for a player like William Nylander.

Toronto isn't going to trade a player like Nylander and take away from a team without getting something that can help them out now. They aren't a team interested in a lot of futures.

Already gonna lose Gardiner for nothing & you ignore their cap problems. Signing Marner Kapanen & Johnsson for peanuts ain’t likely. 17-18m maybe?

Market value & a cap world added together makes for many possibilities. Cost certainty is far far away for the Leafs.

There is not many teams with cap space to bail out good teams problems. Why would they if not getting the better deal? If they unite & set the price & stick to their guns they force good trades their way.

lol

okay “on the roster”

The “but Gillis” excuse for Benning gets weaker with each passing month

- Nucker101

The team seems to be getting better every Gillis contract extracted. Two years in a row the team has been climbing , so maybe the Gillis contract issue has some merit to it.

Capology research & longterm effect of 3-10m+ contracts to pay. Add WN @7m. Where is the money for everyone else?

The Leafs can dump Horton’s contract to get some cap relief but trades still will be needed.

I've typed 1st and maybe 2nd for numbers in my posts today, so where are you thinking that I can't do math? Have you seen my work? Nope. Again what are you talking about my math for?

Does nobody remember saying we needed layers of players? Cap control is what that means for the longterm. We are in no cap troubles now or in 4-5yrs at least. As the EP’s get paid other players are gone or retired.

Let's not pretend the situations are the same.

Not now, give it two years. Minivan is ready to trade Boeser for a first and a second when the time comes.

Clearly it’s a lot more than what you expect.

Would you trade Boeser for the 9th or 11th pick this year?

- 1970vintage

The big difference is TO can't afford maybe their best player RFA Marner. They also have no D and RFAs they can't afford.

TO went all in trying to win this year and now they have to get creative to find money / cap space. We have none of those problems.

They’ll dump Kadri, maybe trade Kappy. Pay someone to take Zeitsey. They still have ELC’s coming, they’ll be fine.

Leafs will have $50m tied up in 6 players

JT
AM
Marner
Willy
Reilly
Andersson

Leaves 33m for 17 players. Kadri Marleau Horton already eat up another 17m

67m so far & have to Kapanen Johnsson & 13 players for 16m left over.

There your homework is done for you.
Nonsense is all on you.

Maybe taking on Zaitsev's contract brings it down to somewhere quite reasonable.

10oa and Stecher?

They have 8.8 cap space and Marner Kapanen Johnsson needing contracts and 17 players signed.

Moving Kadri gives them 16 players signed and an extra 4.5 per year. So 13 mil to sign 7 players and Marner wants 11 mil. Plus they still have a crap D group and a hole at third line center.

Fine, you are welcome to be worried about their cap problems. I’ll bet you they open the season with a full roster, including Marner and Nylander, and that they make the playoffs again next year while the Canucks don’t...

Tavares (frank)ed them and didn't even get them out of the first round.
