I’d hate to help Tampa Bay add Karlsson but if we can cut a deal that makes sense then it’s a consideration. I think we all just need to trust Ray Ray.

With the Hall coming back Hischier and the addition of Hughes .. Johnson would fit nicely... That would be a lot of offensive firepower ...

With that said, who is going to stop the puck again? Are the Devils going to give the job to Blackwood and hope for the best. He's for sure got talent but really young and unproven.

Disappears for long stretches.

He does turn his game up come playoffs though.

He’s pretty much a shorter, faster Kyle Palmieri.

They could do worse. But could also do better.

Yeah I'd aim higher but wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to settle on Tyler Johnson. Thing is for all we know Boquist could have that same potential. I'd rather see what he has then get another guy who can only max out at 50 points.

Do you NJD fans have any interest in swinging for the fences in free agency? What if Kakko is selected 1st and you’re able to land Duchene? And what about Palmieri+ for Subban? I know it’s unlikely but it seems like Shero could turn things around in a hurry buying low (lower than usual) on Subban. How often are guys like that available? He’s already commit to bringing someone in to show Hall the team is committed. I see reasons both ways on Panarin, Duchene, and Subban

Palmieri stays. We need to add top 6 offense, not subtract. Other than that, I'm pretty open to whatever Shero has in mind

You also need high end defensemen. I certainly wasn’t signifying that you would be done after bringing in Subban. There are reasons as to why Duchene, Panarin, even Karlsson would want to play in NJ but there’s also guys like Zucc, Dzingel, Nyquist - plenty of top 6 options not to mention your 1st pick this year

Panarin and Bob are going to Florida to get those big big contracts and relax in the sun. They ain't coming here.

I think a lot of the established stars are going to be looking to play on teams more ready to compete than the Devils anyway. the 2nd tier guys, are more reasonable targets.

Because he had one down year? People also said that in the past about Voracek, Giroux, Crosby, etc. Who else is coming in as a top pairing defender on this team? Rumors are abound that Nisky and Leddy could be available but they’re a whole other tier. The D market next offseason is soft as well

Ty Smith is looking good

With subban though he put out all those hype videos about his training and then had a down year. Don’t get me wrong he’s a great player but he’s not what the team needs right now.

I’m ok with this line of thinking. I’m also of the line of thinking that something should be done to show Hall this team is serious about their future. Should be fun to see how the summer shakes out

I hope you are right and Smith should help, but no way a rookie is turning around this train wreck of a defense by himself.

you have to at least mention the fact that he has a full no trade clause when writing these blogs

if Johnson accepted this trade, he'd be accepting a paycut by willingly going from Florida to Jersey

not likely

You know what this team needs? A second line center...

No wait, it's getting Jack Hughes. Sticking centers on wing will give you different results than when they were playing center. There's a huge difference between reading a play and chasing the puck around, and just covering a defenseman, waiting for breakout plays.

I hope all those guys on Tampa Bay refuse to waive their NTC's

maybe they will stop giving them out like candy

the Bolts are ridiculous with those, they even gave one to Yanni Gourde

Good article on Hughes on NHL.com's Sunday Long Read.

Patrick Kane thinks Hughes is better than him in some aspects. Pretty encouraging.

I think a lot of Kakko's success in the tournament is familiararity with international ice and playing with a group you are used to playing with. Minutes too of course. I remember how hard of a time the Devils had with adjusting to the bigger ice in the exhibition game last year. I have read a lot of Hughes strengths is explosiveness in tight to make space. On tje big ice space is a lot more plentiful.

I would be excited to get either player but hughes is still my preference.
