Considering they have had high picks forever, why not have the odd exciting year and watch them go for a playoff push. They have a solid up and coming team. It wouldn't surprise me if they make the playoffs in the upcoming season. |

It’s really neither. Attendance was up this year and the revenue is extremely needed for this franchise. Had they made the postseason the added couple games of playoff revenue would’ve been pretty huge. With all the injuries they had, trading Panik would’ve been the optimal decision but hindsight is 20/20 |

All depends on what's in the cupboard. If the squad has some talent in the pipeline, it is worth driving for the playoffs. It also depends on the depth of the draft. Here, AZ can get the best player in the draft at 14 (Cole Caufield), so no worries. |

Raanta goes some every year. At least Arizona can count on that. |

In general, I think if teams don't look like contenders for the Cup, they should be sellers at the trade deadline. The Blues were in the playoff race and still sold off pieces in 2017 (Shattenkirk) and 2018 (Statsny). Worked out well for them.
That said, Coyotes are a budget team. Free agent spending is dictated by in season income. Can't leave that out of the equation, tanking this season effects next seasons internal cap.
Coyotes already had 50ish points by February 1, around the time teams start making rental trades because the way the cap works they can fit more in by waiting as long as possible. With 35ish games to go. The chances of them ending below LA points wise is pretty low, so they weren't going to have a top 5 pick, it still would have been in the 6-8 range. Historically, teams don't do that much better picking in the 6-10 range than they do in the 11-15 range.
If the Coyotes had any upcoming UFA's that would have brought in first or second round picks, they should have sold them off. I don't think anyone they have qualifies. So keeping fan interest up, and the extra couple million that results in for your payroll next year, is probably more valuable than adding a couple percent chance to your draft pick being an impact player by moving up 6-8 spots. |

Rule change idea that seems up Tanner's ally: for the first 3 games of a player's DOPS suspension, the opponent chooses who serves it. So If Reaves goes for a dangerous headshot and gives Matthews a concussion, he costs his team dramatically more. |

To know what's better you need to understand the market. The definition of a successful season can be different one franchise to the next. In this market, making the playoffs several years in a row and being eliminated in the first round would be a success. The franchise would make money and would grow the fan base. It's a big difference from Toronto where fans want to fire everyone because we lost to Boston again.
Oh, and I'd rather own too. I'll think about you when it's paid for in less than 15 years. |

Yotes should've tanked to get Hughes, then not use him in even a top-9 role.
Then flip him to another team where he'd flourish. |
