Carol Schram: Will Esa Lindell's $5.8 million cap hit impact RFA Ben Hutton's next deal? With Canucks' RFA defenseman Ben Hutton in need of a new contract, his next deal could be impacted by the big six-year, $34.8 million contract that Esa Lindell inked with the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

Hutton will take slightly less money in exchange for a NTC and term similar to Loui.

Thanks Carol. If both Hutton and Poliout are gone this off season it’s a big win for the club. I have low expectations

Thanks Carol, I found the Lindell extension intriguing as well, though it's tough to say(because I haven't watched much Stars hockey) if he has really been doing significantly more for the Stars than Hutton has done for the Canucks. There could be a little bit of success bias due to the good year the team had overall, especially defensively.

If Hutton comes out looking for money anywhere close to what Lindell got he needs to be moved imo

Thanks Carol! Lindell ia so much better than Hutton imo that they aren’t very comparible. He and Hieskanen are a big reason they were able to play the boring lockdown style they do.

Lindell may be marginally better than Hutton, but they are comparable because they both generally get carried by their D partners. Lindell, I believe, was also paired primarily with Klingberg, who carried him like crazy. Point is, Stars overpaid Lindell, and if Hutton see's anything close to those numbers, we have a new "LE" on the back end.

I am sure Hutton would politely and thankfully accept 2.4

He plays shut down minutes and penelty kills. You cant carry a guy who plays the top competition forwards every night, so i very much disagree there.

That would ruffle some feathers in here

He lead his team in pk minutes. A team with a good pk. Comparing his defensive ability to Huttons is simply not accurate. There’s plenty of stats to supoort he had a strong year and is on the uptrend despite taking on tougher opponents. Again, not something i could say about Hutton.

Hutton sucks and no one wants him. I hope the Canucks don't qualify him. Sautner is better than Hutton.

Thanks Carol.

I hope Hutton signs a 5 year $25m contract, the outrage would be epic!

And Benning could claim victory in revamping the D.

The only way Travis Green agrees to let go of a dman who he played 22+ minutes a night is if Benning is planning to replace that dman with a new guy who Green could trust as a top 4

Does TG even want Hutton? Doesn't seem like he trusts him that much, but was forced to play him in top 4 because of injuries/lack of quality.
