Watch GMJR trade Maatta and our 1st for Montreal’s 1st lol
- WSCTeton17

I'd actually be very happy with that. Moving up 6 spots in the first round and freeing up $4m would position the Pens nicely for some other moves.

I have seen a lot of rumors for Kessel.
Kessel for Subban
Kessel and Johnson for Zucker and Spurgeon
Kessel to Ari (Unless JR wants a lot of young pieces and cap space I don't see us trading with Ari).

I think Kessel if available will be the number one player teams will bid on. His cap hit is manageable, he is a point per game player. I see his value increasing due to a bidding war.

I think Kessel gets moved, Schultz is a possibility, hopefully Johnson (which I think JR uses the Kessel trade to package his contract), Maatta, Rust, Hornqvist, and Gudbranson are all names I could see us potentially moving/shopping this offseason. As I stated in previous forum posts, I believe we dip into free agency. I do think we go after a second tier player such as a Nyquist or Ferland. I really hope we target Trouba or I would be satisfied with Subban. Either way I believe an upgrade on D is needed.

I hope we do a youth movement to our 4th line and our 3rd pairing D. I think Prow showed a lot of talent to be our 6th-7th D and Addison may even potentially be in the running at some point during the season next year. Bjorkqvist may even play 3rd-4th line minutes this year.

Not moving him to move him. Dude is a wiener and thinks he’s above the team as far as listening to coaches is concerned. Pretty (frank)ed up when Sydney Crosby will listen to a coach but Phil won’t. Philsgood but can’t carry Crosbys jock. There’s a reason Phil is going to be heading to his4th team.

Literally no one can carry Crosby's jock. What's your point?

I’m of the belief that Maatta isn’t a cap dump and the 15th pick likely doesn’t help us in this window. I said it because I think it’s absolutely possible but I’d rather use it as a trade chip elsewhere. The free agency D market is soft these next two years - I think a handful of teams would be interested ie NJD who need to show Hall they’re committed to winning hockey. Maatta is a big upgrade for them and he fits the bill age wise. MTL has some nice defenders coming up but that could be an option as well. If SJ loses Karlsson I could see them having interest in Schultz, Spurgeon, Subban.. would they also have interest in Maatta + Jarry? Idk

I wouldn't mind seeing Prow get a shot, but I'm not expecting much since his breakout year came at age 26. Addison is only 19 so he'll be in juniors again and will probably need at least some time in WBS after. Not a lot I really get excited about immediately from our defense prospects.

Now at forward maybe they have some guys.

If Maatta gets moved that pretty much leaves the Pens with what they dressed in the playoffs.

If Phil gets moved as well and brings a dman back, then I'm assuming either Schultz or Gudbranson goes next, so they still have six guys who likely aren't getting sat.

But yes, I'd like to see Prow get his shot, but it doesn't seem likely unless there's an injury.

We've been talking about upgrading the D, but I think Rutherford is fine with just using our playoff D like you said.

I'd like to see the Subban trade, but I'd be surprised if that's what they actually try to do.

What’s your ideal top 9 for this season assuming no 81 but 72 stays?

I wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to trade for Subban. It makes more sense, at least to me, that Phil would be moved for a dman rather than a forward. You're not getting a proper return if he's moved for a forward.

They are trading away the bad seed. The dude shoots pucks around in the corner at practice while everyone else is listening to the coach. That seriously undermines Crosby. (frank) fat Phil.

Probably won't be a well-received armchair, but I like this look. I'm trying to be as realistic as possible, but I'm sure I'm missing the mark on some of these moves.

This lineup upgrades the defense, adds some speed, skill and grit in the forward group as well as getting some decent futures.

I realize my Maatta trade is probably unrealistic and should be to another team, but I think the structure of his trade is possible to another team.

I really like the fourth line the way it looks and the defense is much improved, plus Jokiharju becomes a solid future for the Pens.

I agree with your logic, although I'd feel fine with a Zucker+ trade. Just based on what I'm reading it doesn't sound like the direction they're going and that Rutherford likes the defense fine.

Crosby, Guentzel, McCann/Rust
Malkin, A, Rust/McCann
Bjugstad, Hornqvist, B
Blueger, ZAR, Simon

A= a 20/50 (mostly ES) guy who plays well at both ends and hopefully has some speed

B= a 12-15/30 guy that fits the possession game of his linemates and convert some goals.

With talks about the Pens being close to a Kessel trade with Zona last year, I have to wonder if that was a Domi trade possibly.

I'm still a bit sour the Pens missed out on him, especially since the cost was just Galchenyuk.

I think it depends on the situation. If the Pens have a specific target with that cap space they will dump him.

I think AZ could still be a good trade partner if the Pens look to move Rust or Hornqvist.
