I really liked him when he coached edm. Smart man, he is below .500 in the nhl because he coached a very bad oiler team. He got alot out of the players though, yakupov played great when he was coaching and after he left yak fell apart. The most ridiculous thing was mac t firing him over skype. I still cant believe he didnt have the balls to meet him in person to fire him. He should have got another season at least before being fired but instead fired him and brought in eakins and the rest is history.

Is there no talk about OHL MVP Nick Suzuki putting up the 3rd most dominant OHL playoff in the past decade just behind Marner and McDavid?

I guess because he's a Habs prospect lips are sealed

Well OHL playoff MVP. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was the actual OHL MVP.

So below .500 winning record, not even fully NHL season, other than the world cup of hockey hasn't done much internationally ...... and THIS is the best hire of the off season? Take it ez EK

He coached the Swiss national team for 13 years. They appeared at the olympics the whole time Krueger coached there, after missing the Olympics for the previous 8 years.

They pulled off a huge upset at the 2006 olympics besting Canada and the Czech Republic (beating Canada was a huge, huge shocker) , and almost did it again in 2010.

Before that he won 5 straight championships in the German league and a euro league Cup (a league made up of all the championship winning European teams. No Austrian team has ever won it before or since Krueger did it).

Not to dismiss this hiring .... but if Krueger was that 'incredible', why wasn't he scooped up a month ago by other teams looking for a coach (including the Sabres), or last offseason, or the year before?

To claim the hiring is 'incredible' sounds a little hyperbolic.

He’s reportedly turned down a few NHL jobs in recent years. He said he wasn’t willing to leave Southampton until he finished the job. Running a team in the premier league is a huge honor. Much bigger league and payroll than the NHL.

He was also under contract with Southampton. It only officially expired today, so he couldn’t be hired anywhere else until today. Sabres had a verbal agreement in place for over a week, I guess.

They let him out of the contract weeks ago when they had no intention of re-signing him.
