It’s looking like a good destination to attract free agents they way they are projecting.

I'm sure they go Best forward on their Board at #4 unless a huge offer comes in from someone via Trade. #16 would be more the trade chip I feel. Nice to hear of talks of a few players in Free Agency that they have on their radar. 2nd line no doubts will be beefed up for next year. No more wearing out the top 3 all year long!

More closer to 9 million a year especially if it's a huge 8 year haul.

yah there’s no way it’s more than $9mil. i have been thinking $8-9 range. joe’s been damn good at being able to negotiate good terms for good prices (at least since Roy left; the Sakic/Roy duo was a disaster but i think we all realize now it was just Roy being a prima-donna and wanting full control then leaving the team to hang when things didn’t go his and ONLY his way).

i just hope the whole line of, “...but if it has to be short term then it has to be short” Joe gave yesterday isn’t something that comes to fruition. i understand he was doing what any good GM does and covering all bases, but we need to lock Rants up for as long as possible now.

The higher the term, the higher the AAV. Cause than you're buying some of their UFA years.

So if he gets 8 years it'll be somewhere around 10 mill AAV no doubt.

I wouldn't say that it's going to be 10 million just because they may work out a
long 8 year deal. You can't base that theory and what Marner or your Matthews is landing etc. Mackinnon took an awesome deal and so did Landeskog so we shall see what Mikko decides is fair . That Tavares deal looks pretty silly about now I would say so.

My guess is 9 million tops . If he landed let's say 10.5 million then Mackinnon is worth that as well and so forth. Another lock out looming heh?? Everyone can't make 10 million a year as the dang cap would have to rise about at least 5 million annually to support all of these high end salaries. Then you better make the playoffs to bring in that needed revenue for the team owner !

I think a fair question would be would you trade Rantanen for Marner? Because the odds are Marner is getting 10.5 to 11.0 mill per. Personally, I would never trade Rants for Marner straight up. If you guys get him at 9.0 mill per, you guys are getting a home town discount. These RFA's are getting UFA dollars is insanity. Whats the point of having a RFA status?? The players may ask the league to invoke a RFA ceiling cap at the next CBA meeting to protect the players from themselves. I see a rift coming within the players union.

Mack has the best bang for your buck contract in the league, your franchise got lucky MacKinnon didn't put up great numbers until after his new contract. Had he put up those numbers prior, he would've easily signed in the 9 million range no question.

Unfortunately for the Leafs, our young stars have put up real impressive numbers during their ELC contracts. Much like Rantanen, there is no way Rantanen or his agent will take much less than Marner, Tkachuk, Aho, Point, etc.. sign for.

Frank Seravalli reported the Avs are interested in Trouba, this surprised me, your D looks solid now.
Have you guys heard this or think it’s a smart move?
