Malkin is the same age now as a young Richard Park was back in the day. - gergeswillems
Park is still considered one of the best NHL prospect right now, the kid is gonna be something else |

Stay away Benning. Stay far away. Malkin has 2-3 really good years left. And if he's gonna be relied upon as the go to guy, you know his body is not going to up to the task. - Itsjustarash

wonder how the stats would change if Kopitar on same team as Crosby for those 12 years - drexel
Im gonna guess not by the 40ish % it would take to catch malkin.
And he probably wouldnt be considered the same elite 2 way player outside of the stingey LA system hes ayed in for years either. |

Rino buddy. Do a little research first. - Feds91Stammer
The question is whether Pens want to trade Malkin to a team in the east

Kopitar is 32... - Feds91Stammer
Yeah he is, but the point is nobody is selling the farm for a 33 year old. |

Is that a serious comment? - Rinosaur
You seriously are way over valuing Malkin's worth. He hasn't played a full 82 games except 2 whole times in his career. Since 2012/13 he hasn't played 70 games except 17/18 season. Kopitar is one of the best 2 way forwards in the league playing on a team that doesn't care anymore and put in a system of dump and chase. Kopitar + a 1st where the pick could be a top 5 is insane and Pitt makes out like bandits.
I don't want the Kings to go after Malkin at all. There is no reason for him to go to a team trying to rebuild but rumored to be going after another low 30's vet. But overall, even a straight up Malkin for Koipitar the Pens get the better deal because he would thrive in Pitt and they would welcome his 2 way play and his ability to stay healthy for the most part. |

I would say absolutely not. - Feds91Stammer
You guys are comparing apples to oranges. Overall value is pretty close (definitely not adding a first). Kopitar is one of the best 2 way forwards which is extremely valuable. How many times has Malkin been nominated for that? The same could be said by Malkin can put up more points. Not to mention, yes the health can play a part too as Kopitar plays in more games.
I personally think the Pens would thrive having Kopitar as their #2 center. |

If i were a team like nashville whos windown wont last forever, with an elite defense but an unspectacular offense, i would. |

I love that East Coast hockey fans think that points are the sole metric to judge a player.
Kopitar has led his team in scoring for over a decade while also being one of the top-two defensive forwards in the NHL every single year. I'll concede that Malkin is a moderately better offensive player, but he's nowhere close to the defensive player that Kopitar is.
If I could go back and draft either player at age 18, I'd take Kopitar over Malkin every single time. - tkecanuck341
