Every year the next guy is “generational”.. that term is used WAY to loosely these days.. generational should be reserved for guys that come into the league and are immediately the best player in the world! McDavid, Crosby, Ovechkin, Lindros, Lemieux..

Matthews is not generational.. Neither was Mckinon.. both are stars and likely superstars but not generational!

Oh and I’ve watched Hughes play.. in a better year, he wouldn’t even be the first pick.. he’s really really good, but Mitch Marner looked better than him in his draft year and Marner went 4th! This guy isn’t even as good as Laine or Echiel..

You never know with kids tho.

Kreider can get a first at the deadline but can’t move up 12 spots? You know he’d get a first at the deadline.

I can imagine McDavid and Kreider lighting it up for Edmonton

- Slimtj100

A late first at the deadline, yes. Not a top-10 first though. Kreider would be an amazing winger playing with McDavid, but Edmonton (as of now) couldn't afford to keep him past 2020.

Ok then forget it

What are the odds someone at 8 is better then someone at 20? 2-3%? It’s not 1 to 20

I would say there's a sizable gap in the odds of getting a player at 8 vs 20, in terms of how likely the player is to a) make it to the NHL and b) be a valuable skill player

I mean, I asked about the Rangers trading back two spots and still picking inside the top 5 and got a resounding no (which, to be clear, was the right answer and the same answer I'd have given)

A player like Kakko obviously won't be available at 8, but there will be plenty of talent on the board and nobody at 20 is expected to have the same kind of ceiling.

It just kills me that these two will be in the metro division for the foreseeable future.

Oh, and in no way is either of them a generational player.

True, we cant all be bottom feeding perennial lottery picks like the Devils or the Oilers.

If I was Edmonton I’d trade Nuge, for a winger or two or a D. They are so top heavy. Play Mcdavid and Leon as the 1-2 centers and trade for a Kreider they need quantity over quality imo

Flat out eye test.. Analytics fooled TOR into thinking Marincin and Gardiner were amazing Defenseman lol.. when you’ve played hockey your entire life and are Canadian, hockey is your culture, paper doesn’t mean squat!

Go watch Marner’s draft year highlights.. he was dancing guys way worse than Hughes.. he looked a lot better than Hughes.

I would like to see the Flyers trade for him. We have some good young D prospects that are close to being NHL ready. Plus a player like Gostisbehere might be a good fit.

Haha

Who do the hawks take at 3?

Byram probably according to those in the know

- Slimtj100

I’m kinda hoping CHI picks him so I wouldn’t have to wonder what the kings would do at 5. Lol

Byram would be scary good with doughty though. Dach, cozens, or Turcotte are also solid choices. Glad I’m not making these decisions. Even though LA dropped (yes I’m not happy about that at all) they will get a very good player.

The Devils are "bottom feeding perennial lottery picks"? Remind me, when was the last time the Flyers won a cup? Or went to the Finals? NJ has done both more recently than Philly.

Ahhhh right. Random internet dude definitely knows more than the professional scouts, who make it their living to evaluate players.
