Adding Hughes and Smith to the lineup will give it the same type of boost when they added Nico and Butcher. If Hall is healthy then the team should be in the wild card conversation.

Welcome back Todd. Everyone expected him to go way earlier so I'm not surprised he turned out to be high value, but man is Smith exciting anyway.

The Metro top 3 could be completely open this coming year. Columbus is taking a major hit with players leaving, the Islanders are most likely due for regression, the Caps and Pens are getting older (both will be fine, but not dominant). Carolina, I feel, is one of the only sure bets in the Metro. Who knows what happens with the Rangers. I keep expecting the Flyers to be great, but they never are.

I'm not saying the Devils are poised to win the division, but I'm saying it'll be competitive.

Trouba is overrated. He was invisible in the playoffs, takes too many minors, and has a low hockey IQ. Great athleticism, but this guy is going to get 8M per season and deserves 5M.

Given Vat/Severson/Carrick down the RD, I would prefer to keep our LD prospect who better fills our void. Also, Smith WILL shatter Trouba's carreer high 33 points after 5 seasons in the league. I think the guaranteed 3 year, cheap entry-contract will see Smith stay in NJ unless you spice that deal up.

#1 LD spot is wide open in Jersey. I hope Smith is up for the competition with Butch, and maybe Davies can put Greene's roster spot in Jeopardy. Lets hope.

It should give the same boost but there are also a lot of factors such as free agency signings trades and players taking a step forward in development that could put us over the top and have us in the hunt for a top 3 spot in the metro

Ty Smith needs a role model to shape his game. Jake Gardiner would the perfect player for that.

A few days ago I saw a website that suggested we trade Palms, Ty Smith and Zacha for PK Subban....there is no way I make that trade. Smith clearly seems like a player who might make an impact for us and improve the D...Subban was less then spectacular against Dallas and at 9 mill a year for 3 years on downside of 30...NO THANKS!!

I was being sarcastic. But on a serious note, I don't think Shero does any major trades. He was patient in getting this high end young talent, he'll let them grow and fill in gaps with some middle of road signings, Like Maroon, Boyle deals.

If Montreal buy out Alzner I'd be OK with picking him up on a cheap 2 year contract, I'm not saying that I would put him in the starting line up, he would play in the AHL or be the seventh guy and only play once in every 3 games to replace Green so that green doesn't have play so many games or play when someone gets injured, or like I said, play in the AHL.

Bikeguy the devs are not going to play a guy who is only in his third season and two guys in there first down the left, Davies will likely play most of the season in the A and come up if there are injury's.

I'm excited for Ty Smith, but I wish we had a better defensive coordinator then Nesreddine for him to learn under. Every player struggles here. So at some point you have to wonder if everyone stinks or if it's the system.

Vats looked good when he first got here. Butcher looked good when he got here. Hell, even Severson looked good when he first started. Spend some time with Nesreddine and watch your whole career unwind.

SCOTT (frank)ING STEVENS!

PLEASE!

#4 for evermore!

I agree, #4 should be a no brainer. Dont you think though maybe they already spoke about it and possibly Scott doesnt want to? Maybe hates the travelling and stuff?
With that said, even just being at home coach, like special assignment, etc..

I want us to try vegas's strategy of trying to rotate the defenders after 1 minute constantly in the first period.

...In a way there is almost no chance a Scott Stevens can ever be an assistant coach on the Devils..I don't think you can have a Hall Of Fame player who had his number retired by the organization lurking around for the fact he would naturally command far more respect then your head coach ever could!

There are things that concern me about Smith.

He appears to me a high skill guy but vulnerable to attrition - that is, he doesn't play his best hockey under pressure.

That to me is the thing he's going to have to work on if he wants to succeed in the NHL.

Steve did fine her as co-coach and I wouldn’t assume it wouldn’t work. He did a great job in Minnesota also. Just saying.

Nico who?

That’s fine. That will improve with playing time in the big league.
