What's the report on Kylington? I know he's only 21, but it seems like he was drafted 100 years ago but hasn't made much of an impact.

He played a decent chunk of games on the Flames this season. Had ups and downs but mostly held his own on the 3rd pairing and showed some flashes.

How did Hanifin look this year?

I know he started the season on fire and his production really faded down the stretch, but I'm curious about him because he's always had so much potential.

I think he’ll be gone. I hope he’ll be gone. He seemed to make smart decisions under Hartley, now I wouldn’t trust him with anything. Can’t pass in his own zone, can’t pinch properly, can’t play properly... I don’t know what the hell he was doing in that series against Colorado, but too many of the odd man rushes were his fault, and goals with uncovered players while Brodie was sitting at the top of the defensive zone are some of the things that come to mind.
I remember seeing it at least twice where Brodie failed on the pinch, and Colorado scored, and gaudreau would skate back to the bench cussing and shaking his head.

He was mostly solid on P2 but I'm not sure there's really another level for him

Absolutely they should.

They need Cap Space for Tkachuk, Bennett, and Goaltenders.

They have the depth available on D now, and Brodie will still garner a good return.

Does Brodie warrant a return of a 1st round pick. While the Flames may have developed a better option in Andersson, he is still a top 4, and possibly a to 2 on many teams around the league. Some of the teams that have 2 first round picks like Colorado, Buffalo, or the Rangers be willing to part with their second one?

The Flames will pick 26th in the draft. Might be nice to move up and get a better spot. But don't want to take back a contract in the trade as need the cap space.

That's what I was afraid of.

He's good, and really good in open ice, but always left me wondering why he wasn't getting any better.

It's disappointing.

Wishful thinking that you could get a 1st round pick for Brodie. Not a bonafide top line pairing, get rid of his tether (Gio) and he competes for the negative plus minus leader board (see last year stats). Regardless, need the cap space, time to move on.

He was definitely disappointing. He was barely noticeable during the year. It's not all bad though because he wasn't sticking out for any negative reasons, so there's that.

He looked like a deer in the headlights throughout the playoffs though.

Carolina def won that one. When they guy u get is hopefully one day possibly as good as the guy you gave up its a hard trade to win. Hanifan still has a great career ahead of him in a complimentary role.

Possibly at the deadline a first like muzzin from the kings trade might have been. July 1st the value drops.

I mean, they did get Lindholm though, and he was awesome (the first 50 games of the year)

He was fine, 2nd pairing defenceman with nearly .5 ppg production and playing around 20 minutes a night. I don't think he was free-wheeling, seemed to make a lot of the right decisions and passes, was a very solid partner for Hamonic all season long.

Solid 2 way guy, averaged only 1:06 of PP time per game this year with the Flames rolling 4 Fwd 1 D at times on the power play.

Again, fine, nothing special, wasn't first pairing material, but definitely solid.

Calgary definitely won the trade unless Hamilton becomes a truly elite Norris calibre defenceman and resigns. Lindholm and Hanifin are both locked up for 5 more years at pretty good numbers. Hamilton wasn't even that much better than Hanifin this year.

Fox probably isn't ever going to play for Carolina and I'd be surprised if they were even able to trade him. Ferland is also going to need to be paid way too much money to stay there.

Hockeybuzz should consider trading James Tanner.

I'd happily take a Richard Cloutier return at this point.

If it was 1 for 1, sure, short term you would say they won. I still think there are factors in the deal that tilt in favour of the Flames, but overall, I think it worked out to be a great hockey trade:

Hamilton is better than Hanifin right now. That he's a RHS defenceman also tilts the value further in his favour. There also wasn't a huge point gap between these guys this year (Dougie a better goal scorer for sure) BUT

Lindholm signed long term and scoring nearly 30 goals while setting career highs (nearly doubling his production) in all stat categories starts to sway things a bit the other direction. He's also pretty responsible defensively, chewing up SH minutes as well, not something a lot of scoring wingers do these days.

Ferland had a very solid season, but he's showing that he's a little injury prone, the concussions specifically should be of concern, and he's going to ask for Wilson money this off season. If Fox doesn't sign, and depending on Ferland's contract and health, Flames could come out on top.

Either way, trade worked out well for both teams, no complaints here.

Dougie Hamilton: 18 Goals, 30 Primary Points, 259 shots, 160 Hits, 91 blocked shots, 35 takeaways, 66 giveaways.

Noah Hanifin: 5 Goals, 14 Primary Points, 116 Shots, 87 Hits, 83 blocked shots, 50 takeways, 87 giveaways

Hanifin averaged more ice time per game than Hamilton did and did way less with it.

The only thing Hanifin did better was have teammates who could score.

I don't see why. Lindholm is much better.

Ferland's alright but the dude hasn't finished a game he actually cared about in like two months.

4 playoff wins in a single season as a coach vs 1 playoff win in 5 seasons.

Plus Rod could totally kick his ass.
