Just wanted to post before all the Chicago douchecanoes pop in and reveal their lack of intelligence.

Thanks Paul!

Serious question here...Are the Nashville Predators enemy #1, in Chicago, and are the Blackhawks enemy #1 in Nashville now? The constant vitriol spewing between fans of each team is rather entertaining, but I'm curious if the rivalry has truly turned into one of hatred?

Speaking only for myself... for a long time it was Detroit, followed up by St. Louis. The Minnesota North Stars had a brief moment on my hate radar too. In recent past Vancouver supplanted Detroit due to several playoff match-ups - and their fans were very adept at trolling. But now, yes, Nashville is the team I love to hate. For a long time I would expect most Pred fans to say that Detroit was their biggest rival, as the Hawks were still going through their dark ages during the 2000s and not relevant enough to be considered a rival.

However, most of the Preds fan who post here are good folks and not reflective of the typical “you suck” chanting morons that pack into Bridgestone Arena.

Yeah, pretty much. Speaking from a Nashville POV it used to be Detroit, but that was one-sided on Nashville's end and more of a standard bearer type rivalry. The Wings were the standard in the division and conference at the time, and everyone wanted to be in their position. Then they moved to the East, and they were replaced by Chicago. Again, the rivalry was one-sided until the sweep a couple of years ago, and that really jump started things. It's really hard to truly hate another team until they give you a good reason too. I'm still trying to build hate for St. Louis and Winnipeg but not enough history yet... The only other team we really hate is the Ducks, but that's a rant for another time.

If Joe Thorton really did say that on the bench after the major penalty, that's the difference between a salty North American captain and a soft Euro captain. Nothing personal against Josi, but Euro's don't carry the same clout.

Using this year as an example as to why the playoff format should stay the same is a bad example. It's a fluke to have all the division winners lose in the first round. The last time was 1967, you know, the last year the Leafs won the cup.

Speaking of Leafs, that series turned on the Kadri suspension. If he was playing, it's very likely the Leafs finally purge the Bruin curse. And, incidentally, this matchup would've happened in later rounds if they had the 1-8 seeding. Just saying.

If anything, this year perfectly illustrates that it's better to be in "playoff mode" a month or two before the playoffs start, than in cruise control.

Nashville had the luck of being in the same division with the Wings when they ruled the world. So we were trying to get to that level. We almost made it, then Chicago replaced Detroit, and we were still a step behind. So years of frustration finally capped when we swept them a few years ago and purged those demons. For some Chicago fans, it was too much. Their daily rants and trolling are indications of just how much we're in their head after that series.

I think most of the fan base has moved on, now placing that rivalry anger at Winnipeg or maybe St. Louis. Definitely the Stars now, which adds a very cool layer to the Winter Classic coming up.

I'm not sure we've ever had a very strong captain in Nashville. I mean Tom Fitzgerald? Greg Johnson? Weber, maybe. Josi doesn't seem to be very assertive. I kept waiting for the players only meeting down the stretch, it never happened.

Sort of like that timeout from Vegas after the first two goals during the major...

I still remember when the media here was trying to artificially create a rivalry between Nashville and Columbus. Yeah, that never panned out. Neither team was ever relevant at the same time while they were in the same division. Joining the league around the same time isn't enough of a reason to start a rivalry. The problem with rivalries is that the hate has gotta linger, if it's going to be real. If you're transferring your hate every couple of years to other teams, it wasn't really much of a rivalry to begin with. The Packers & Bears, Yankees and Redsox, they don't stop hating each other just because one of the teams stinks that year. The Rivalry might lose it's luster nationally for a while, but the hate sticks with the fans and the teams. Preds have only been around for a little over twenty years, so they haven't had a lot of time to develop a true long-standing rivalry with anyone yet. The Hawks and Ducks as still the closest thing we got to teams we love to hate, that hate us back in return. For teams like Dallas, Winnipeg, and St. Louis, I'd say the feeling is more like a passionate dislike than hate at the moment. Just not enough history yet... I want to hate the Stars right now, but I'm more upset with the Preds and how they played in that series than I'm upset with Dallas for beating us.

Tom Fitzgerald was the first C in franchise history. He was a great captain. He was a good leader and was given a tough task with a mix of old and new players in a new non traditional hockey market. He was well respected by his teammates.
He wood also make a good G.M.

We all know the Captain C on Josi is mostly for show anyway. He only wears it because you can't put the C on the goalie. Peks is the real captain of the team, and has been since Weber left. Regardless of what anyone thinks of him as an aging goalie, the players respect the crap out of him. He's the guy they look too, and the main reason it's going to be hard on the coach when it comes to transition from Pekka to Saros when the time comes.

There's some underlying hate towards Dallas going back to Modano and all that garbage. It really hasn't had a chance to come out because they haven't been in the playoffs much since and this was the first series between the two. But it's there, especially for the fans that existed prior to 2016.

But that's just it, he's too a nice guy. Sometimes leaders can't be nice, they have to be tough. I can't see him going postal in the locker room and getting in guys faces. And if there's one player on the team that SHOULD do that, it's him. He's been hung out to dry most of the year.

Vegas should have found resolve in recalling how the Hawks killed a 5-minute major against the Preds in the playoffs - with no timeout necessary.

Well, in fairness, we've never had a very good power play. I mean, maybe one year in the early 2010's...for about three games...

I still can't believe Vegas gave up 4 goals in 4 minutes. I remember a game between LA and Detroit back in the day, and they scored 2 or 3 goals in a major and I thought that was insane.

Oh man, as a Vegas fan I can’t imagine how that must have felt. Everything is going great and then... SCREETCH goes the needle across the party album.

That is painful.

I kinda feel bad and then I don't. I mean, they've pretty much had the world handed to them on a silver platter as an expansion team. If it were only that easy for us when we were. It took years to get to the playoffs, much less win a series. Look at Columbus, they just won their first playoff series.

No, now that I think about it, I don't feel bad for them at all.

Vegas San Jose game 7 the other night kind of reminded me of the Auburn Virginia game a few weeks ago. Auburn had a 4 point lead with 10 second left and a questionable call shifted momentum and impacted the outcome of the game. The kid still had to make 3 free throws.......much like the Sharks still had to make power play goals to get back in the game. 4 in 5 minutes was astonishing, especially after Vegas had the game in control up to that point.

As for hatred towards another team, it was definitely Detroit early on. Lots of Michigan transplants down here working at Saturn and Nissan plants. Was a sea of red every time they played. Was probably replaced by Chicago when they moved
to the East. I think overall, most Hawks fans are alright (my wife is from Chicago and is one), they just happen to have more trolls that show up here.

Yes, the expansion draft did establish them as a privileged group from the start. But, this playoff crotch kick helps to round them out as a fanbase.
