There is a lot misleading about that stat

1) The Habs WAY overachieved.

2) The Leafs were pretty much in the playoffs by Christmas. The Leafs knew who they were going to face by about January. They pretty much had it on cruise control the whole second half of the season. So, it is pretty safe to say that the Leafs underachieved on the season. Hell, they finished below the 17-18 team, and I don't think anyone would disagree that they were better than the 17-18 team

I would be concerned were I a Habs fan. I don't think that team is as good as they performed.

- Aetherial

i disagree, they were full value for the 96 points. Had great underlying stats all season.

They have price.
With a key ufa signing or two, they could bump down the leafs next season.
(Depending on what the leafs do as well)

I like San Jose. They have the most dynamic offense . . .but can San Jose without any real defense and the worst goalie in the playoffs contain MacKinnon?

I have no idea who to pick, I really don't. It's crazy.

Math nerd alert: based on style of play and goaltender performance against that style, you'd probably go Boston, Carolina, Dallas and Colorado.

Based on my gut, I'd go Boston, NYI, St. Louis and Colorado for the final four.

But . . I . . . I was so, so very wrong in the first round.

- Monkeypunk

I had Toronto and SJ in the Cup final. I'd like to see one of them get there still.

I'd have to go with:

Columbus v. NYI in the East
St. Louis v. San Jose in the West.

I'll agree to the fact that they performed better than most people predicted.

I'll also agree that plenty of guys out there had career highs so there's a chance they won't continue on their current path.

But Habs also have some good young players coming up in the next 2-3 years.

And we have plenty of cap space available to improve the team if needed.

I'm not saying we're playoffs bound for sure next season. But I fully expect us to be in the mix of things again next season.

A full season training camp and a full season of Weber should also help.

Hyman undergoing surgery on a torn ACL. Expected to miss a minimum of 6 months.

Not that it matters now.. figured I'd prepare you for MiB's next blog.

B's are in for a shock if CBJ plays them the way they played Tampa. CBJ is a big team that plays a much heavier game than the Leafs.
- Aetherial

The BJs are gonna blow past the Broons.

Isles will beat the Canes

St Louis and the Sharks with Karlsson... In the west. Sharks with the best d man in the league.

They'll have Weber (maybe) all year next time, so that'll help. It will be interesting to see if Domi can replicate his monstrous season again.

The 18-19 version of the Habs is one of the hardest working teams I've ever seen.

What they lacked was elite talent up front and a good LHD to play with Weber to make it to the next level.

Once Drouin went from nearly a PPG player to 3 points in his last 25 games, we we're missing some very important production and it ended up being our downfall.

Not putting everything on him but we needed him to do much more than he did to survive.

Yeah, I wonder about that one...

Domi had a good start in Az, and then disappeared.

So, I guess we wonder whether he now disappears in Montreal. I kind of think he is happier to be there and will continue to be as good as he was this past year.

It really hurt that Pitt, Carolina and CBJ didn't falter down the stretch. I was pretty surprised the Habs didn't make it given the season they had.

I think well find out next year that theyll end of middle of the pack. I think they are hurting themselves by being like the Leafs of old and just missing the playoffs.

Which is why he tore his ACL.

See? That's why Babcock doesn't play the stars. He cares about preventing ligament damage. Now it all makes sense.

I gotta say, finishing where we did was the worst possible scenario.

But we're not an old team overall, lots of young guys coming in soon.... there is cause for cautious optimism.
