Thankfully we have the salary cap. Good luck Jake in your next big payday. Somewhere else.

gardiner played substantially less minutes - I don't believe he saw one second of PK time... 4 goals against in the series, when averaged against his ice time versus that of other is NOT compelling - and he saw little if any time against the Bruins top lines. Point is - and really the only material point is that he isn't a reliable defenseman and he was injured or playing hurt at a minimum - not smart to have him there.

What if Rosen had played decently and only made a couple of mistakes? Gardiner was never going to recover mentally from last years Game 7 debacle - Leafs should have moved last summer. Poor judgement by management.

Burkey's gonna be the new Cherry. Incoherent old man shouting at clouds.
- gravyface

probably... Burke's going to more of mess than Cherry though... he's been fired by several franchises... it will be difficult for him to pick favorites and hide ... everyone knows DonC's biases ... and if you dont it takes about 30 secs to figure them out....

I'm guessing if they try Burke in that sport MacLean resigns inside of one season - although he's become better at hypocracy recently...

Apples to oranges. Krug is a far better player with far more support for his game.

What people expect from Rosen, Gardiner has already been doing for many years.

And you knew this the moment he stepped on the play-off ice a few years ago. Wow!

I'm considering holding out for a new contract... then I'll show up disinterested and out of shape.

But everyone will forgive me because I have a great haircut

And Muzzin is a little overrated.

And a pending UFA.

So, yeah, there's serious work to be done.

Hainsey is gone too and as poop as he was half the time, he ate up a lot of minutes.

- JohnFergusonJr

Muzzin a pending UFA? Better check that.

It's very likely this team takes a step back next year. Little cap space and massive holes on the blue line.
- aminnes

Got to think this is a given. Until Marleau is gone. Suspect the iron man streak is near and dear to his heart.

Since the Leafs are done this year, I'm looking at him as he pertains to the 2019/2020 season.

Also why I said Hainsey is gone because he's practically a UFA now.

Time for Rosen to pack it in then. Doesn't deserve a chance against those odds.

Pretty sure I didn't say that.

What I did say however is that there was more merit for putting Krug in as a rookie than Rosen.

This year was the year to go for it at the trade deadline. You still had Matthews and Marner on their entry contracts. Cap hell was coming this summer. The fact that Dubas sat on his thumb at the deadline has allowed the Leafs best window to win pass by.

Krug was inserted into the play-off lineup due to injuries at the time. For the same reason Rosen should have been. And the coach had pointed out how well he played when recalled near the end of season. But no, take a seat in the upper box Calle and see what pointers you can learn from 51. Hope to heck he kept his eyes closed.

So knowing Gardiner was not 100%, why did Rosen not slot in? And gain a bit of play-off experience at least. Whether Gardiner was hurt or not, it would never help the team.
- Leafsmart

Because Babs says that Gards at 50% was better than anything they had at 100%. Poor Rosen doesn"t stand a chance

Well the one positive takeaway for me in this series was how well we played game 5. I was simply amazed that they could play that well for a full 60 minutes. Had not seen it against a strong team in quite some time. Might be wise to use it as a teaching tool going forward.

Agree. As long as they aren't too stupid they should get another large window in the coming years, but this year was a great opportunity. And rental prices were pretty good as well. The fact that Rosen is being debated tells the story. I liked getting Muzzin, but only Muzzin was not enough, and yes, I've been saying this since long before the deadline.
