Nylander has lots of talent - I don't think anybody is really saying otherwise.
The problem is he has 0 drive, 0 heart, 0 will to win.
Can't win a cup with him.

this sounds awfully familiar.

That is the real problem.
I thought the GOAT improved throughout the year.
But he should be on the ice when we are down by 2 goals in a game 7. babs is an idiot. Would prefer to lose his way then to win someone elses. Thats a problem

- Fakepartofme

He thinks they played "real good", and played offensively challenged players the entire 3rd period, didn't even try playing matthews and marner together. Think they will at least entertain the idea of firing him?

Nylander's not the issue. He's a talented winger/center depth; again, usage: Marleau and Brown. Even Matthews would have trouble producing with those two.
- gravyface

I wasnt saying nylander is an issue. But if you have to choose based on cap/performance. AJ and Kap or Nylander.

Despite the hate and lack of points, Marleau was decent most games this series.
He was simply used too much.

his contract is an issue if he continues to play like a 40 point no-effort floater

I think they will. But ultimately, he'll be kept for another year and will have to replace all his asst's.

Be warned, Ellis is a wee man, opposing players have been tossing him around like a rag doll all year. If you watch replays, he's the defensive player allowing the guy to walk right in on Peks for the goal.

PK loves the spotlight, which allows him to work on his new show about turnovers.

Lavy, well since we were 0- five billion on the PP, he has special teams and adjustment issues.

Not that I don't want to trade, but I am a fan of the Leafs too...

- FoxMulder

So, now that you've pointed out their downfalls, what is your expected return in a trade. knowing the above negatives.

So there is no "other" side to French's statement.

GM's are lining up to spend 7 million for a guy with that production who has no other element to his game?

Yeah, the things I read on here.

Nylander is absolutely an issue.

7 goals in 53gp making 7mil. Every single game he floats around doing (frank) all. Guys who make the most money set the tone for everyone else. Also he came on to the team out of shape and their record without him was wayyyy better. He’s gotta go.

Even at a 60pt no effort floater...is it better cap management to have two players combining for 87pts with some potential for more costing about 6- 7 mil max for 2 -4 years over 1 60pt player with potential for a little more costing 6.9 mil for 6 years?
To me, that will be one of the big questions facing Dubas this off season.

Nylander “looks” good..

But he doesn’t have the heart of a hockey player. The book on him in Sweden was that he lacks compete, and it’s proven to be true. Overpaying him put the team into a speed-wobble, they had a great balance before he joined, then he disrupted the rhythm they were in.

Anyone know what time Dubas’ presser to fire Babcock is today?

Sorry, yes, that's not what I meant. I agree that it's Marleau's decision. He has earned that respect. I meant that I believe Marleau probably knows he's done. He has not played well for several months.
- Monkeypunk

Frank this.

Marleau has had a great career - with another team.

We don't owe him anything for his fantastic, hall of fame career with the Sharks.

We signed him for three years - and let's be honest, it probably was only for two.

I'm not going to bend over backwards for a guy who had a good 1st year and a terrible 2nd year.

The guy is done.

This is a business.

I'm just sorry Babcock doesn't see it the same way.

Carlo Colaicuovo went off on Babcock on Leafs Lunch, lol.

They probably won’t fire him but take away his assistants and bring in ones that will affect change in the systems, other than firing him, that’s the only other way to get the message through that he has to adapt to the way the game is played now.

You’re missing the point.

A 40pt guy who plays his role well, making 3 mil is far more valuable than a guy who takes stretches of games off making 7 mil. He’s a no-show in the games that matter most. I have no issues with Matthews, Marner, Rielly, Tavares’ compete level.

He was a no-show for the entire season, complete joke for the 2nd highest paid player on the team

I agree with everything Scabbies is saying. It’s part of the same reason I wanted the Bruins to get Tavares (outside of obvious reasons). Having a team with 3 great/very good centers is very hard to beat.

Bergeron - Tavares - krejci
Matthews - Tavares - Kadri

To me that signing sealed our fate. We all knew we were going to meet in round one again and when the leafs beat us to sign Tavares I thought they punched their ticket to the second round. I think this is a totally different series if he doesn’t get suspended.

- RickJames77

I agree with you and Scabies as well..
If Kadri doesn't get suspended, it's a different series. Nylander should have on Matthews' wing, not as a C with Marleau and Brown.

Franking Kadri. Two years in a row, he's hurt us..

Even with what he did to it?

Honestly, I think given his longevity and his two Olympic golds he'll get in eventually.
