Looks like Vasili Podkolzin is dropping! - walleyeb1
Good. |

As we know good Dmen are hard to find. If we have multiple good young Dmen and they develop nicely they could form the heart of this team for years to come and one or two would be great trading chips. I would have no problem drafting Byram. - -Doh-
Byram seems to have size vs the D we have been drafting lately so in way he does fill need. I would rather have surplus D vs surplus F as they do carry more value in the NHL. Teams with surplus D are always considered to be strong trade partners. |

I’m warming to this as a possibility at #3:
Giants general manager Barclay Parneta said he wasn’t at all surprised that Byram was ranked fourth among North American skaters and the top-overall defenceman in the league’s latest scouting report.
With his skills, the teen could slot right into any NHL franchise, he said.
"He’s that good. It doesn’t really matter," said Parneta, who spent seven years scouting for NHL teams.

Generally teams don’t make trades during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I wonder if that will change with so many teams eliminated that are in cap trouble. |

If the best defenseman in the draft is available at #3, and said defenseman is ready to jump into the NHL, Stan has to take him! No questions asked. |

Do they not make trades - or do they make them in secret, not yet approved by the league and not announced until after the tournament?
It's still 8 weeks (I think) from draft day. |

As much as I would the prefer the Hawks grab a center with projected 1C potential (e.g. Cozens) it’s hard for me to argue against what you’re saying. |

Agreed. Makes less sense in this era than in the previous era with how fast the game is now. Doesn't matter how great your offense is if your defense cant keep the puck out of the net. Team was 8th in scoring but gave up the 2nd most goals.
But the real question is, who are we going to take at #3?! - Assman22
Cozens or turcotte unless Kappo drops to the hawks |

Button's quote on Byram: “Teams can’t afford to pass on potential No. 1 defencemen and he has established beyond a shadow of doubt that’s what he will be in the NHL.” - EbonyRaptor
Is Button's opinion worth anything? |

What do the Rangers have d-man wise? Anyone of value in on the roster or in the pipeline? Maybe they jump the shark and select Byram leaving Kakko on the board. |

I want a C. - Ogilthorpe2
Hawks need a center and center depth in their system hawks have enough d prospects. One gm don't remember what gm it was but said always draft a center goaltender and defenseman every draft. Wingers are easier to acquire through free agency and trades. Cozens is my choice unless Kappo drops to 3. |

That could be entertaining. Wonder if Coliton will show up or sit out aka Q? |

Do we consider moving the #3 overall, Anisimov to Tampa for Brayden Point ++?
AA replaces Point as a C (or Point replaces AA)
Also we get to upgrade our C depth NOW not later (with 3OA)
the ++ will probably have to include another blue chip prospect AND draft pick(s) to balance out solving Tampas cap problem and gifting them the 3OA
... but we get Point and restock a bit while dumping AA |

Turcotte is a center. Cozens is being used on the wing at the U18. Krebs is his center and aside from racking up points against Belarus, prolly falling in some rankings.
Turcotte is also playing wing with Hughes and Caufield, mostly. If there is a way from the Hawks to drop back about 3-4 slots while getting more assets, Zegras/Boldy would be my choices there. Krebs would be a sleeper in that range. His junior team was horrible and he is showing off his wares at the U18's. |

Colliton will be on the floor draped around each kid after they get picked, giving them an earful of encouragement and feedback. Then Kane will roll his eyes. |

While I think Byram would be an okay choice at 3, I fear he is being over-valued a bit due to being considered the best d-man in the draft. Also, don't think he is ready to step into the NHL. Dahlin was considered a much better prospect and while he had a decent season in Buffalo, had his own struggles. |

Yep, the beauty of that pick is that it’s going to be (or at least should be) a very good player who is low cost and controlled for a number of years. |

True, but most rookies struggle and it's one of those things they have to experience before they can grow beyond that point. So whether it's as a 18/19 year old or a 19/20 year old - there's probably going to be some lumps and missteps and I'd rather have him go through those growing pains in 2019/20 and be better in 2020/21 than waiting to start the process in 2020/21 - IF - he can handle it mentally.
