Could have just buried Bickell in the minors.
- BINGO!

He would of still counted $3 mil against the cap.

Btw didn't we draft Debrincat in the 2nd round of 2016? I believe Carolina gave us their 2nd round pick, so the Hawks did fine on the trade

As head of their PR department, I think he’s addressing a lot of angry letters from season ticket holders.

Do season ticket holders pen angry letters anymore or do they just go ballistic on Twitter?

- HawkintheD

When we decided to not renew our tickets and they called me and asked why, and then emailed me.....I replied.

After that I got crickets back......

I have similar thoughts on Hayden. If he applied himself and played physical every shift, then he'd be a keeper and a reliable contributor game in and game out. The fact is that he isn't. I wouldn't be upset if he was traded but he has a similar fate as Perlini if on next year's roster: play consistent and apply your talents or else take a seat.

While smaller, Sikura engages more consistently than Hayden and Perlini and has shown he can contribute in ways that don't involve goals and assists. Yes, he needs to get stronger but at least his compete level is high and can be relied on to do the little things to help the team win as his scoring waits to catch up.

As for more North American players than Europeans, I'm with you that each player's style of play and the skill set matters more than nationality. Plenty of examples of physical, gritty, and tough as nails Europeans, i.e. Landeskog, Radulov, Malkin, Hedman, Tarasenko, Kopitar, Voracek, etc.

- AEL_Fox

I agree with you about players like Hayden (54 games), Sikura (33 games), Perlini (46 games). They have been given chances at the NHL level. They each have some positives. But nothing that they have done at the NHL level has earned them anything more than another opportunity to fight for a spot in training camp (if they are signed and not traded). Hopefully there will be a lot more competition for the last forward spots this year. (#3 pick in the draft, Kubalik? Wedin? Mikheyev? Nilsson? Highmore? Hopefully a 3C and 2 bottom 6 gritty forwards acquired through trade or free agency.)

TT is a really good acquisition for Carolina. They took advantage of the Hawk's cap situation when they were in a position to make the deal, good for them. Now hopefully the Hawks can pick up a good player the same way now that they are in a position to make a similar deal.
- paulr

yeah I was pro TT, and I can admit I was dead wrong there. Im just a goof with internet access who likes to post on a board....

I went back and looked up that trade, and had to close my phone and stare out the window for a few minutes. Just awful, and granted they needed the cap space....BUT....the one thing that led to this was Bowman's refusal to SIGN Bickell in season before he became a beast in the 2013 playoffs. He could have saved at least 50% of that cap hit that led to Bickell and TeuvoTime being shipped out..

All the Hawks got to show for that was some goof that never made it that they drafted in the 2nd round, and then taking the 3rd pick and flipping it to Detroit for THE Thomas Jurco…..moment of silence for his infamous Hawks career.

Yea but we had the extra picks in the 2nd round, it's easy to isolate things, but if they didn't have the extra picks they might of not drafted him

I thought it was weird at the time too.

Turbo's turned into a really good two-way guy. He's really good at get his stick in the passing lane.

- BINGO!

First - congrats. Now take out the Islanders.

I loved TT's game from the beginning because he showed flashes of innate ability that, if it came to fruition, he would be the player he has now become. He's grown since he left the Hawks, including physically, and I'm happy for him.

Dylan Sikura reminds me of TT. Different situation to be sure because Sikura is 23/24 now whereas TT was 19 /20 so huge age gap. But, Sikura makes those same kind of subtle little plays that I watched TT make a few years ago. I'm not suggesting Sikura becomes a 60+ point scorer but he has that same innate ability that if he gets the opportunity to develop and it comes to fruition, he could become a kind of poor mans TT.

Don't complain, the advantage is when most teams are bad the poor ticket sales encourage Management to improve the on ice/field.court/diamond product. Here in Toronto the Leafs can be bad for 10 years, and you, Rick, Elbows, Mo and I could play for the Leafs and not only will the waiting line for season's tickets get longer but there would be a run on the purchase of our jerseys. There is no incentive here to ice a competative team.

HA....very true.

I had a mens league last night so I missed the OTs between Carolina and Washington. That 1st goal was just awful that Holtby let in.....That's on him, was a weak 1st attempt by Aho, and then he just sprawled out.

It's WIDE open....curious to see how NYI and Columbus respond to having not played in a LONG time.....tough game 1 for both of them

To think either Carolina or NYI will in the conference final is crazy.

There was article in the paper back in February of 2013 that Bickell and his agent had gone to the Hawks to start negioating and Bowman wanted to wait.

So Bickell has a monster playoff, AND at that time was the only legit sized guy with skill in the organization NHL ready at F.

I recall the reports/intel were that Bickell’s camp was looking for $1.6M for 3yrs - then as you stated, Playoff Bickell emerged (which was awesome) - and turned him into the $4M/4yrs power forward we all had been waiting for. It’s a shame what transpired afterward - but it’s not high on my list of things I like to beat Bowman over the head with.

Vegas isn't going to get away with dumping Merrill and Holden to get cap compliant, they are not the only ones in cap hell, Toronto, Winnepeg, are in the same boat, you can probably include Tampa, seems more a buyers market than sellers.
