Yep, took a cross check from Eakin off a face off, bumped into/was thrown down by Stastny and bashed his head on the ice

Jesus. Pavelski took more than his share of lumps that series.

Maybe now isn't the time to speculate, but I've never been one for formality

Pavelski is a UFA next year and I'm not so sure what the Sharks plans are for him moving forward. If they think they need the cap space to re-sign Karlsson I'd love to get him on a 2-3 year deal. He'd be a perfect RW for Barzal.

Watched it 3 times. Scary poop, but looked like a 2 minute minor to me. Whole sequence appeared far more unfortunate than malicious.

Sharks will keep Pavelski over glass groin Karlsson. If they didn’t already have Burns that mightn’t be the case, but they do.

Better for him if he goes to the Rangers. Then he can leave his brains on the ice.

Probably, but they're going to have a hell of a time getting people signed this offseason. Their prospect pool is virtually nonexistent and these are their UFA's:

- Pavelski
- Thornton
- Nyquist
- Donskoi
- Haley (stuff him back in the dumpster he was born in)
- Karlsson
- Heed

and RFA's:

- Gambrell
- Meier
- Labanc
- Ryan

I have to assume re-signing Meier is a priority, it's not going to be easy for them. I'd love to try and poach someone like Labanc.

Pavelski, Meier and Labanc get extended me thinks.
Donskoi, Karlsson, Nyquist will be allowed to walk.
Thorton will probably retire.

Maybe.

It's possible, but it could get razor thin real fast. If Pavelski gets any sort of raise I'm not so sure they can get it done.

Everyone jizzes their pants at the thought of offer sheeting Marner, but (and, to be very clear, I don't think anyone is going to get offer sheeted ever) if someone was going to get offer sheeted, giving Labanc $4M x 5 years would only cost the Isles a 2nd round pick in 2020 draft. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Which is exactly how offer sheets should be utilized. Poaching the likes of Marner and Laine is prohibitively expensive, both in dollars and picks.

Guys like Labanc and Tanev however...

The funniest thing about offer sheets is that virtually nobody knows that the annual average value is calculated by "the number of years offered or 5 years".

So if someone think they're slick offering Marner 7 years x $10M per year because the compensation would be 2 1st's, 1 2nd, 1 3rd it'd actually be 4 1st's because it's $70M divided by 5 years which would be an AAV of $14M

Wasn’t it something along those lines that got Feaster in hot water when he tried to sheet O’Reilly?

Looked it up real quick and Feaster didn't realize that he would have had to put O'Reilly through waivers if he signed and Colorado didn't match.

So not only would Feaster have given up the 1st and 3rd round picks as compensation, but he probably would have lost O'Reilly to another team on waivers. He would've basically just thrown those picks in the garbage

What a (frank)ing idiot

Every single offer sheet in the last 20 years has been matched by the original team except for one. Someone may try, which is still incredibly rare, but the chances of the team matching are slim to none.
