I am honestly a huge fan of hunter, I live close to London IE knights.....but really if you think mark hunter is going to fix the oilers, good luck!!!? I think they might be slightly unfixable honestly.

No, and really I would take the GM minimum if that was an option but I don't know where to start, other than draft a defenseman at all costs.

Kind of surprised that Hextall isn't of interest. He did a great job getting our cap under control and his draft record looks pretty promising.

totally fixable situation. But they do need to get on it and change the culture before they Tavares themselves. Looks like they're on the right path. Seems like they have very good candidates, and hopefully the new gm has control and doesn'tt have to share it with Keith.

It’s fixable as long as they hire the right people....the biggest issue will be shedding cap space so they can address stuff like lack of top 6 forwards

If David Clarkson can be traded then so can Lucic. Might be stuck with Russel though. Nothing else seems all that terrible imo.

For sure a possibility. I know Hexy is working with Hockey Canada on the IIHF tourney, so maybe he is waiting for that to be done with or he might wait for something out East to open up so he doesn't have to move his family again.

Honestly, it might be a blessing in disguise, as Hexy seems tied to the hip of Hakstol, and I would feel really bad for McDavid if Hak was coaching lol

Couldn’t possibly be any worse than the carousel of ineptitude we’ve had behind the bench this past decade.

You could cut Brodziak loose as well but if a GM manages to get rid of Lucic and Russell in the same offseason he needs to be inked to a lifetime contract

True but I wouldn’t mind just getting it right for a change we are due for something positive here

Any idiot could cut all of them loose... its a matter of how much of an ass raping is said person willing to take.

Lol fair point. Hak might be one more horse on that carousel IMO, but if you had to deal with a bad coach but competent GM for like 3 years to get the cupboards stocked and the cap in order, would it be worth it?

Also, is Hitch staying on for another year or was he just a short-term thing? JW on that.

It’s gonna be an ass raping in order to get anyone to take 100% of Lucics deal....at least Russell’s will be up soon

The new GM will get to decide the future of Hitch as a coach....I personally see him being with the Oilers in an advisor type role

Russell might have some minor value... and by that I mean we won't have to retain salary or take a bad contract in return.

Except the trade was for a comparable contract, but one that could be LTIR'd. If anything Lucic is the closer to career ending injury than any comparable bad contract (that mysterious leg injury at the end of the year).

Gotcha, thanks. It's kind of slim pickings for coaches right now unless some are let go following underwhelming playoff performances.

I know a lot of the Oilers problems are roster related but did Hitch do a good enough job with what he had to where you guys would want him to return?

Any GM that can't get this team to be competitive by two years is incompetent. That's when pretty much the entire cap problem sans-Lucic clears itself (Nuge, Larsson, Sekera and Russell contracts expire). Add a couple quality wingers over this offseason and the next and then our current prospects will likely be ready to step in, as well.

I think it’s pretty much impossible to find a team that will take on Lucic and 100% of his contract....would have to add a hell of a sweetener
