Just a guess, but I'd suspect the Rangers to be looking at a player like Alex Newhook in that 18-22 range. Newhook is committed to BU next year, So I'd assume Quinn knows a little bit about him. Newhook is ranked anywhere from 10-20. Having a very good U18. |

I am sure the Rangers have seen a lot of him because he's Riley Hughes teammate so I would bet they watch all their games |

That's good for him because after a guy like Jost, who was drafted out of the BCHL, got sent to the minors a lot of GM's were probably tepid on drafting kids from that league without proving themselves against better talent. The fact that he's scoring well at this tournament is big for him. Might be the difference between getting drafted in the early teens vs. late 20's |

Idk if you'd ever get a "star" out of teir 2 junior league. But more and more guys are going tot hose leagues and making into to the NHL. Jost, Makar,(Alberta) Heinen, Kerfoot, Manson, Jamie Benn and Turris to name a few.
Edit: Didn't realize the Avs heavily scout the BCHL/AJHL until now. |

Anything but a goalie is fine with me. Even LHD. Just get the best player available and not get cute. However, you can never have enough centers in the pipeline imo
I still see trading that pick as an option. Especially if they get this Dallas pick |

Newhook was a guy I was high on all year, but his draft stock seems to be dropping like a rock. At this point, you wonder if he could fall to the Dallas pick if we get it. |

Not being a Richard, but what makes you think it's dropping like a rock? If anything his two-PPG pace at the U18's is going to improve his case. He's 4-4-8 thru 4GP. |

It really sees like it's crazy teams don't at least do a cursory scout on any sort of relevant league. Looks like the Avs are taking advantage of this inefficiency.
Sort of like how no one picked up on this guy. People say he might as been good as Gretz (I'm on the that's a BS claim opinion on that one), but no one bothered to scout him seriously.

Someone scouted him, the Oilers drafted him in 1986
https://www.eliteprospect...om/player/20964/tony-hand
He even played 3 games in the WHL in 86/87 and scored 4-4-8pts
He also scored 216pts in 35gp in the British League. That's 6.17ppg |

I know earlier mocks had him going as high as 10. Maybe I missed his name, but I now see mocks with him not even in the top 20. I think the guy is a good player and would be happy if he got drafted, it's curious though how he fell so far for seemingly no particular reason. |

Don't go by mock drafts. Like 98% of the time that's just a bunch of idiots sitting around trying to predict stuff that they don't really know all that well.
I think he's been pretty consistent in the draft rankings, more or less, although I willingly admit I haven't paid as much attention recently because the Isles are still relevant. |

I've been pseudo paying attention to him because before Caufield mania hit full swing, Newhook was the guy who I thought was a steal in the draft.
I know about these guys being idiots. We get "treated" to another year of Mel Kiper tomorrow. ALthough ESPN has featured him more in recent years, I'd love to get paid millions to show up on TV for 1-2 days a year. |

That would be nice. But, I'd put Point in the same category as Ehlers - no way their teams part with them, no matter their cap situation.
Let's not forget about Fox!! - Tonybere
I don't see a scenario in which WPG keeps Trouba and Ehlers |

I officially gave up on football. Part of that is that the Giants are a tire-fire but the bulk of it is because I can't take the reviews, penalties, commercials, etc... anymore. It's terrible.
I think Newhook's ceiling would probably be a good 2nd line player. 50-60pts, maybe a season or two where he exceeds it. That's a great find in the mid-to-late first round. |

Redzone channel is awesome for that. I'm not sure I can even watch just a single game again. I think that's what made the super bowl more awful though, there was no other game to flip to. |
