The only part of the 1st 2nd Vesey and Pionk deal that would hurt is the 1st. Vesey had a stretch that he played well but he’s replaceable. Pionk doesn’t have a spot if we get Trouba and the 2nd is a very late 2nd. I would say do it.

Barry Melrose just referred to Mats Zuccarello as "a little wee guy'' the Dallas Stars got from the New York Rangers. But he said he's "a great fit.''

Trouba would be a welcome addition to our blueline. But if we are giving up those assets for Trouba like Books described, I absolutely would not take back Perraults' contract. We already have enough bottom six forwards that are less than 31 years old.

If we cannot sign Panarin, forget Trouba, I say we give Kyle Connor an offer sheet for $8.1 mill x6 and force the Jets into some hard choices...

As far as Zucc, I don't see Dallas ponying up 2 first rounders should they advance again AND re-sign him. Gorton will have to be at his creative best to figure that deal out! Hopefully, it will involve moving one of Staal, Shatty or Smith.

Yes, as long as both teams agree. Depending on the legalese of the CBA, they might have to technically trade the conditional first back for whatever + "future considerations", then in a second trade NYR is given that same first back with the newly negotiated conditions as the "future considerations" of the first deal, but the teams could sign and submit both trades at the same time.

There is no way I give up the 1st in that deal having to take on a bad salary and have to pay Trouba, $7m per year. Use a late 2nd or 3rd to get Fox and call it a day.

Call me crazy, but I wouldn’t be in a rush to sign big contracts (Karlsson, Panarin, Trouba) for next year. Let the kids develop one more year and keep gathering draft picks, especially if it is supposed to be a deep one.

All these young players are going to need ice time and we already are paying our d-men $30m plus RFA raises.

The proposed trade with giving the 1st back would essentially be:

Hayes Vesey Pionk TBL 2nd

Trouba and Lemeuix

yeah, if Dallas approaches the Rangers and says we'd love to have Zucc back but we can't give up the 2020 1st rounder, it would be in the Rangers best interest to talk

because if Dallas ultimately says goodbye to Zucc, then we are left with just the 3rd rounder

they could probably both just mutually agree to change it to a 2nd rounder guaranteed as a compromise

there aint nothing Dallas can do about this year's first though, they have a great chance of beating St Louis, Zucc only needs to play one game in that series for the condition to be met

Typical fanboy trade proposals. Let's trade a 3/4th liners plus a 3rd round pick for Trouba. I'm sure the Jets are going to jump on that

exactly. especially considering the rangers already raped them in the hayes deal. nyr need to add a legitimate asset in order for the deal to happen and none of those assets listed are all that legit.. the 1st is nice, but not for a number 1 dman.

Taking that contract back is too much. Trouba basically has the Jets over a barrel, so there's no reason for Gorts to take the contract.
As for Dallas, if they advance and Zucc is Zucc, I can see them resigning him. He's been great so far and they know what they have in him.

I dunno about Trouba. I'm not saying he is bad (he isn't), but to me he always has seemed to be one of the most overrated dmen in the league. He did score 50 points this year, but that was his career best by a comfortable margin. While he would only be 25, he's already got a bunch of miles on him. We already see how it appears that McD lost half a step before he turned 30, Trouba might be the same thing and his starting point is lower than McD's was.

In other words, you are paying to much for a guy who probably wouldn't move the needle as much as you'd think he would. He would definitely be an upgrade to D, but I'd rather sign like a #4 for cheaper and try to have ADA as your top pairing D guy.

Nashville is so much like the Rangers trajectory it’s crazy. All these playoff rds, pres trophies, a cup finals, old goalie, etc. with nothing to show for it. I bet Laviolette gets the can and they start rebuilding soon

Not sure you'll be crazy about that either. Not that ADA didn't show glimpses this year, but we saw first hand with Skjei and Pionk what a young D-man can look like when you ask too much of them too soon.

ADA is cheaper and has more potential. I honestly don't think we would be really rushing him too fast. I realize this was in effect his first full NHL season, but he has been in the league a few years now. I think it's completely different than Skjei. It's also different if he fails. I'm guessing he gets bridged this summer, so maybe something like 2 yrs with 4 AAV. If he isn't up to task, you can easily walk away in a couple years. If Trouba is meh, you are probably locked into a 7/49 contract and it potentially hurts the rebuild.

He's better than Skeji, but not as much as people want to admit. Not worth 7 million for sure.
