Good points of course and yes NSH's offensive D and forwards failed to show when needed which is also a factor. But Rinne has been a ? mark for more than a few seasons now in the PO's...this year no different really he just didn't get chased in the elimination game (like he did vs WPG last year) which doesn't really change much in the grand scheme IMO.
- LordHumungous

I see what you're saying. He's really only been good one year in the PO's, but it was an incredible run and he was the best goalie in the playoffs. That's only two years ago and I guess fresh in my mind. He was lights out that year, has been pretty shaky since.

Exactly. It's the canucks time to load the D.

I don't think Holtby was ever chased as much as Rinne in the PO's but could be wrong. But champs eventually get through it. Don't think Rinne is that guy.
- LordHumungous

Holtby had his Playoff woes. Got destroy by MTL and the Pens a few times. Hellebuck(however you spell it) will be fine, I think with a fine tuning of the team they will get passed the first round again.

I liken it to the Luongo factor. Great regular season numbers for the most part but a craps shoot in the PO's. But yes like most top-caliber goalies he did have top play in the Po's at times.

Good goalies get shelled in the playoffs. Great goalies bounce back. at the end of the day, it really is about how the goalie played ove r the course of the game overall not the one game he got shelled. It's like focusing on the one bad play a dman made until the cows come home and not really looking at what they do consistently over 82 games. I will continue to look at the overall. Saying ignore his 930 save percentage is IMO is just ignorant. now, the fact that he has had 905 save percentage the last two years might be worth pointing out. Having watched those games, I think most people know it's much more on the forwards than on Rinne.

Rinne wasn't great in the playoffs, wouldn't have had to been if their big guys came to play. Their defensive core didn't score and their top line wasn't existent when they needed to be.

Although I could say that about a lot of teams in the playoffs this year

Assuming this pick will not be ready for three years remember , D prospects have more trade value than forwards. You can always pick up a forward easier by trade or free agency.

The big value is in D prospects. Look at what Nashville were looking for in return for Fabbro.

He stood on his head and had under two goals per game and a 930 save average. Was the easy conn smythe favorite that year if Nashville won. You guys either didn't watch Nashville's run or are just forgetting how good he was.

Doesn't seem like you do, I think you'll be eating crow on this one regardless of where he gets picked.

Go read another lazy second hand scouting report. Seems like all you ever regurgitate. Jordan Spence in the 3rd round >>>>>>> Soderstrom at 10oa

Agreed, and if Pod, Dach, Boldy, Zegras, Turcotte are all gone I am good with Soderstrom over Newhook/Caufield.

Why are you yelling?

Everyone in Alberta is yelling, yelling is their 3rd commodity, oil, beef, yelling in that order.

I've watched planty of tape and am allowed to like players you don't. I also don't pretend to be a Doctor on a hockey blog board, so maybe just buck up a bit and allow us to disagree instead of throwing stones. Minivan will write down the predictions eventually. Only time will tell.

After 10-12 picks there is better value much further down the draft. Early 2nd isn’t any different than a mid 1st imo. Now if we could get more picks in the top 40-45 that would be my plan.

Canucks D prospects are paper thin. Maybe it is time to concentrate on high end D instead of Tony Utenens

I was referring to this year he wasn't great in the playoffs.

Sorry, 3 games he kept them in it and was phenomenal, the other 3 he wasn't great. My point was if he had some support from the d core and forwards he wouldn't have had to have been great.

This draft is easier to get a top 6 F before a top 4D. Passing on a F makes it less likely while finding D later on can be a boon. I don’t think this is the strongest draft. Not weak nor spectacular after the top 6-8 are gone. Next year projects to be really good.

Correction you can get a forward . You don't know if they will be top 6
