What do you think happens if the player that JB wants isn't there at #10?
- LordHumungous

i think they still pick at 10, because there will still be a good player.

I feel like that’s going to be 70% of the posters on draft day, no matter what JB does.

Lol, true. 70% of main characters are going to die, 95% of everyone. Going to be a glorious blood bath on Sunday

If the player he’s focused on is no longer there, I could see him moving it for an extra pick.

the liklihood of the Canucks trading down in the 1st round while hosting the draft isn't likely in my opinion. Is that a reason for not trading down? no, not at all, but is a good enough reason for Benning? I believe so.

Unless his top 10 isn't close to consensus that he thinks he can get one of them at lower pick I doubt it. GM's often only trade down if their pick is likely off the board a bit.

Trading down is IDIOTIC when you have a top 10 pick

i see the merit in trading down one or two spots, if you are dead set on a player and are 100% confident he will be available a couple slots down, and the return is hefty, I can see why.

In this scenario, and the uncertainty of what happens between 3-15, I agree with you, trading down makes little to no sense.

How can you be certain that their guy is available? Somebody higher than 10 on their list will be free. Take your bpa. We need high end talent not more middle 6 trash

Not sure what makes me angrier, “offer sheets” or let’s “trade down”

you can't be certain, which is why I don't know why people are even bringing up the possibility of trading down. Over the last few weeks, we have seen players who are projected mid or late round picks in the 1st, pushing up, which could eventually lead to a surprise player being available at 10. I think regardless of what happens before the Canucks pick at 10, they will get someone who they like.

Not to get you riled up but it wouldn’t be the first time they went off the board.

imagine this.

the 2017 draft, The Canucks and McPhee talked trading the Canucks 5th OA to Vegas for their 6th OA + (unknown). Now imagine McPhee accepts the trade then takes Pettersson and we end up with Glass (who could be a very decent prospect still, but likely isnt Pettersson).

McPhee declining that trade was, in the end, very lucky for the Canucks.

They haven’t really gone off the board...even their worst pick (Juolevi) was genrslly only ranked 1-2 spots back on consensus lists

Great fit for Canucks, pretty much anyone would be better than Green.
