If you don't believe either one should be on the team, then it's not worth debating. But i think there's a decent case that Pominville is still a useful 4th liner/extra forward, who is losing his spot to a worse forward because of poor decisions made by prior management.
- jcragcrumple

With the wealth of talent available in this years UFA market, we can get a serious upgrade from a 37 year old, injury prone 4th liner to a high energy game changer, or put some of our young guys not ready to be 2,3 on 4.
4th lines are the difference makers in today's games. look at the teams with the highest success rates over this past year. They all have highly productive 4th lines.

I don't think he should be on the team...he's a vanilla player who added very little to the sabres...I don't believe his perceived professionalism had a positive effect on the team nor do I believe that he offered anything of substance in interviews, even though the media constantly flocked to him for his insight into various situations

Michael-

Pommer was 4th in goals for the Sabres, playing limited minutes.

16 goals is above expectations.

6 less goals then the 2014 2nd overall pick
And actually less soft

Haters gonna hate

Pommer had some of the best in game memories of the past 8 years this year.

- Boss34

I'll admit he acquitted himself better than I thought he would. Still, and I honestly don't know the answer, but how many of those goals came away from Jack? I would guess less than 5. Not that it's horrid, he did produce when with Jack, but I think it shows he's not very impactful by himself. He can still find soft areas if given the time to get there.

Great memories. Time to build new ones. Not going to flip any cars if he gets another year, but with guys like CJ Smith, Goalofsson and potentially Nylander taking spots next year...not much room left especially at wing.

his goals came primarily because of the talent around him who did most, if not all, of the work on them

Okposo is the guy taking the 4th line spot though. We're not in the market for that. We need a 2RW and maybe a 3RW depending on your view of Nylander

Good post

And I agree with your last post.

I feel dirty rooting for the Bruins, but ......

My opinion, he can stay another year or not, makes no difference to me. Wouldn't be bad if he stayed another year, they have made worse decisions on players.

You really could say the same for :

Sam
Skinner
And anyone else that played a regular shift with John Jack

Why couldn't the Sabres find anyone else to ride along with John Jack. Pommer did the job.

At 37 I'd rather him be here then:
Cj Smith
Sobatka
Larrson
Girgs
Wilson
Okposo

Perspective I guess

Growing up it was hating the Bruins and dolphins

The leafs were in the other conference and always on the Canadian channels with the rabbit ears.

They were kinda likeable . Wendel Clark, Doug gilmour.

Now they invade our arena ... boo

Asked Trouba if he plays a role in helping the Jets stay under the salary cap this upcoming season, he responds, “that’s Chevy’s job.”

So essentially, a hometown discount is not likely.

This is where I am on him as well

He was a favorite of mine back in the day and the last two seasons he played his part.

If he wanted a 1 year $1.5 million deal I would be fine with him returning.

If he wanted to retire I would be fine with that as well.

If Botterill doesn't want to bring him back I am fine with that also.

This is just so rare, and is really only saved for a select few truly elite players on great teams that want to do what they can to keep the roster competitive.

That said, figure out a way to trade for him.

According to Dobber, 62% of his points came with Eichel - 18p

Skinner also had 62% of his points with Eichel

Sam Reinhart had around 61% of his points with Eichel

All stats via Dobber at even strength

for skinner that is kind of misleading because didnt he play most of his time with Jack? I honestly would have thought his would be higher. But is that because of PPP not being included in that?

Yeah, their ice time is radically different, and Pominville only had 2 PP points, which were not included in the stats i just posted

Unfortunately, we are doing ourselves a great dis-service by putting Okposo on the 4th line. He is better suited for the 3rd

I hated Montreal and Boston growing up. TO was not a threat to us at all back in the old conference. My how times have changed. Still routing for TO over Boston though

So, when adding in the 2 PP points with Jack, he's 20/31 pts with him. If my mafff is correct, Pommer scored 65% of his points in less than 30% of his time (the time spent with Jackie Moon).
