I thought the same. It looked more like a scrum right after a faceoff where Pavelski got twisted up and fell awkwardly. It was unfortunately but not a penalty - at least not one that I saw.

WTF...that was the most bizarre 3rd period I have seen since the hawks vs ducks 4: hawks had a 3-1 lead and the ducks scored 3x in 90 seconds to take a lead and then kane tied it 4-4 late in the 3rd and hawks won it in OT with vermettes goal

neither ref was going to call a penalty on that vicious post face off crosscheck; they then divine a 5 min major after seeing pavelski was seriously injured...there's your top notch NHL reffing...at first it was a playoff playon crosscheck but no not really...

Bc you then had Statsny shove him to the ice while he is more or less in midair. Pavelski was hurt real bad bc of the Eakin and Statsny and neither was anything close to a hockey play.

Been watching the replays. Eakin cross checks Pavelski in the chest., Joe loses his balance, gets checked by Stasny and falls and hits his head on the ice.

That’s my problem with NHL officiating. A penalty is a penalty. They let so many illegals hit go bc there is no injury.

a major no...interfer or cross check yes...but these refs were going to pass on it UNTIL they saw pavelski motionless on the ice then they hand out 5...that is pss poor ref decision making...

it was actually stasnys take down that caused the the sever off balance fall...

I liked the sharks this series...they came back and won 3 strt...2 in OT...

the knights were a deer on skates in headlights for that 5 min pp...no excuse they needed to answer the sharks emotional surge and didn't...

NHL refs are clueless in the playoffs but they are instructed to call or no call it that way...no way that is a major...hell they weren't even going to call a 2 min until little joe stayed down; that not how on ice calls should be made...

If you get pushed a little lay down and stay there, I guess.
Feel bad for little Joe as he hit his head, but he didn't get crosschecked in the face. Not even close. He stumbled back after getting pushed into Stasney's way.
Even if I feel it was a poop call it was a hell of a game. Love playoff overtime hockey.

Agreed. It was not a five minute major offense - despite how badly Pavelski was injured. But, I’m very impressed how SJ responded to their captain going down with a power play explosion.
