Have no vested interest in the Leafs, either. And, yes, Boston is a borderline dirty team. Toronto needs to break the Bruin curse tonite. Doubt it will happen, but you never know. - gabriel
Honestly im learning towards the Leafs since they play a cleaner game of hockey besides Kadri. Bruins are going to come out nasty, it'll be interesting how the Leafs respond, all eyes on Marner, some say he's the better hockey player, well game 7 tonight. |

Chris Peters:
Talking with head coach John Wroblewski after the game. As much as he's seen Caufield score, he said he was surprised to see Kessel's record fall at this tournament. Also noted that Matthew Boldy impacts the game in much the same way Marian Hossa did from the wing. |

Boston is one team that is not in cap hell, and can add some big salaried players. Kreji is their highest paid player at just over $7mil. |

There are a few reprehensible players on the Bruins, and their style of play is borderline some of the time, but I am really OK with either of those teams advancing. Whether Toronto wins this season or not, I do not see them being a long term threat. Zero cups and seemingly already in Cap hell going forward. They will lose a key piece or two after this year. They have a young enough roster to remain competitive for a while, just not sure it will be enough for a cup. - TheTrob
The Leafs have surrendered their immediate future for the present. And, I still don't see them making the finals. If Long Island proceeds while the Leafs stumble, the Canadian press will go berserk. Grand theater on the way if that happens.

Although I don't think he has any connection to any Hawk brass, I would like to see the Hawks bring in John Stevens as an assistant coach in charge of defense and PK. I think with Colliton's and the rest of the coaching staffs (Brrkbank, Granato) inexperience, they need someone with more experience behind the bench. - LAHawk
I think someone mentioned Yawney before. He would be great to bring in for all the young defensemen. Not sure what his status with EDM is at this point.
I think Granato gets kicked back to the Press box and a more seasoned coach gets brought in. I think Colliton and Brookbank are OK. |

“I think the slewfoot involves an arm. I just find that their skates bump the back of ours a lot. Whether that’s just dumb luck or somehow [the way] the way they battle for pucks, we’ve brought it up to the [league] supervisor for the series,” said Bruce Cassidy. “If you see a few of them then let’s [call it]. There are a couple of things that we’ve found Toronto does that we’ve brought up. That’s why [the league officials] are here, and that’s what they ask for. I’m sure Toronto brings things up about us. We’ll see where it goes. I know there was one on a face-off where [Sean] Kuraly went down from behind, and I think that’s started the DeBrusk/Kadri battle. There’s been a few of them every game.”
I honestly have not seen this. Last night they called Stephenson for it, but they should of called the defender for interference or holding just saying |

Does Boston have the capacity to overplay their hand? I don't know. I'd be wary of pounding the Leafs into submission. Could backfire on 'em. Can't wait to see.

Am I the only person in the U.S. hoping the Leafs jam it into Boston's ear? Apologies in advance to those fans suffering from close geographical proximity to Leafs Nation. I understand your position. I really do. - gabriel
I am a Hawk fan in Canada, what do you think???
Now, leaf fans are not nearly as insufferable as the HaplessHab crowd....but they have been closing the gap on that.
No....there is no doubt. Go Bruins!!!!! |

For those keeping track, Anisimov is also playing in the World Championships. Adding on to Tyler's list:
USA - Kane and DeBrincat
FIN - Jokiharju and Lankinen
SWE - Gustafsson and Kruger
RUS - Anisimov - AEL_Fox
Kurashev confirmed to play for Swiss team at the World Championships. |

Where are all my Russian haters at??
The Blackhawks are among the final three NHL teams trying to sign Russian right wing Ilya Mikheyev.
https://www-secondcityhoc...omsk-nhl-2019-free-agency - SoftServe
Have to like the comment that Mikheyev doesn’t “back down from a defensive challenge” and that he was the best “team player” on a team filled with former NHLers. Other reports say he is great on the PK. Good candidate to have in the mix for a roster spot if signed. |

Just read the Nashville post mortem on The Athletic. They’re probably going to have to move D to bolster their scoring.
How about DeBrincat (21, 800k next year, RFA after that) +
for Josi (28, $4M next year, UFA after that) + |

I’m not doing that unless you sign Josi first. Cats only a Rfa you know you will sign him even for another year at least. Josi isn’t worth it for just one year |

I don't think so...... a 21 year old top line goal scorer for a top 4 28 year old defenseman? We need a lot D help but trading away your best young forward doesn't help the big picture.
That leaves your top 6 in shambles.....with Kane as the only real goal scorer on the team.

I like Josi, and while I don't think he is bad in his own end he is definitely a more offensive D-man than a defensive one. Hawks seem to have a pipeline of those coming.
If the Hawks are going to give up a 21 year old who had 40+ goals in only his second year they better be getting a top pairing Defensive minded d-man first. |

In a Scott Powers story: Jokiharju plans on another summer of training with his father Juha and Jouni Viitanen, a cross-training coach. Jokiharju also kept the door open to possibly playing for Finland at the upcoming World Championship in Slovakia.

Not sure if I do that exact deal but I would see what it would take to acquire either Josi or Ellis. I'm sure it will be a lot but might as well inquire and even put in a bid that won't hurt the cap or the future as far as key assets that are part of the solution. Josi is of course the one to pursue first signed at $4M through next season.
Ellis is signed at $6.25M through 2024-25 so could be another Seabrook situation, but FWIW, there were so many hockey experts who praised this as a genius signing. Contrast that with Seabrook's contract that was blasted as horrible from the get go.
Heck no to Subban or Ekholm. |

Agree, it would have to be a trade where Josi also signs an extension immediately. I personally wouldn't trade DeBrincat either way. Fill one hole but create a new one. |
