I'm willing to give this guy a chance. He does have a nice resume. Jay - put your GM hat on... if it were your choice, who would you have (or liked) hired?

Good question from the previous poster! I feel like the Rolling Stones’ song “mixed emotions”. I’m neither excited, nor disappointed at this hire. This just seems to be the “safe” pick.

A little. I’m concerned that the Rumo Rangers let him go when they went to their youth movement. If he was good with young talent, then why did they let him go at that time? That’s not to say he hasn’t learned anything from his experience, but it does give pause. That, plus the Flyers feel they can’t take a chance on an up and comer. My personal opinion is, they picked him to make the playoffs now. Those seats in the WFC need to be filled now, and management wants that more than anything else. I’m hoping the chemistry works between AV and this group. Only time will tell.

I understand his record and accolades, but I am not keen on some aspects of play by his teams. Specifically, embellishments and lack of physicality.
Having said al of that, his resume was best available at this time.

I think there is a big difference between the Rangers starting a youth movement and then letting AV go as opposed to the Flyers being 5 yrs into it's youth movement and bringing in an established coach, like a 5 year difference.

Key part of the article - players will be dissuaded from going to each other’s defense and taking penalties. -

This is a problem. The Flyers are already the softest team in the league. Adding this guy is going to be a disaster in Philly.
