seriously, if they were basing the whole year and now the playoffs to see who emerges as a captain, what a choice to make:

Mathews, Marner or Tavares.

I wouldnt mind it on any of those 3, but who do you pick?

Matthews

If you want him to be the future of the franchise, you have to make him the future of the franchise.

Tavares is already a cyborg. Did you see the frightening blank stare on the bench yesterday?

Mitch is always going to give it 100% regardless

Matthews is the choice.

they won't, and shouldn't, put him on the block. A lackluster half season, and some Leaf fans froth at the mouth. They never learn. You don't dump a kid his age, with his capabilities, because he slumped for 20 games, and hasn't looked great for 3 playoff games.

Of all the places the Leafs should be trying to find cap space, the 22 year old kid should be among the last. You start with the veterans on their last legs, or mediocre players like Zaitsev, WAY before you look at Nylander.

nobody wants those guys unless your team sucks and they are contenders at the deadline. see oilers

they’ve been hoarding young skilled guys for a decade

we are in the window with a nice core and we don’t need a soft as slime, playoff shrinking violet for the next 5 years

trade these creampuffs for men who can handle themselves

See crapitals, pens

shoot, Vegas? look what the bjs are doing to tampa

i’ve Got £40 0n them and the isles tonight

I don't know these guys personally so it's hard to say who's right for the role.

But if you're asking me by what's happening on the ice.

I'd say Tavares.

Give Matthews an "A" and let him learn from one of the best before taking over at some point.

But, as I said, I don't know enough about their respective personalities to be certain.

I'd be happy with any of those three or Rielly.

But if - and it's obviously a VERY big if - the Leafs somehow win through this year, I hope that they let Marleau go up and get the cup first

THat was kinda my thoughts as well. Let JT "mentor" Mathews a bit.

But I love Marner

Against Patrice Bergeron, Jake Muzzin has been on for four times as many defensive zone face-offs as o-zone draws, but the Leafs have 57% of the shot attempts and 65% of the expected goals in those minutes.

If the Leafs can find a way to Rd2, this is going to be a big part of it.

IMHO, there's no possible way that fans can figure out who is best to be captain.

It shouldn't go to the best player.

It should go to the best leader - something we have no way of evaluating.

Just my two cents.

There is no translation.

The closest would be...

that’s what’s so great, save trolling, about this hockey talk sanctuary where we can
all sharpshoot lesser players and gms than us

i’ve loved snakevares’ production this year but why was he the captain on the island all those years and they didn’t do poop and now all of a sudden they lose him in the biggest free agent signing ever and gain uncle Leo and Martin and had a great season and now there getting ready to sweep the pens?

I hope that if they do win this year, that Dubas/Shanny sneaks a new sweater on the ice with the C on it and give it to whoever the new Captain is.

And then they hand the female dog (Cup) right to Marleau.

Trotz. Nothing to do with Tavares. Trotz has a long history of getting subpar teams to the playoffs. But he's only ever gotten past the second round with a team packed with superstars. And the Isles are not packed with superstars.

It's great for Isles fans, gives them a little excitement, but I suspect it will be shortlived.
