This most definitely is a factor. To get a 1st line center with that talent and that size at that age, either of those teams and probably others would pony up the draft picks and the salary.

It's a good question.

On the one hand, he's a terrific bargain - his salary of $4.5M is a bargain.

On the other hand, if Nylander performs well at centre, maybe they figure they can shift him. I don't think it's ideal, but the salary crunch may force them to go cheap on the wings.

In any event, I think a lot of it will depend on what happens in this round and subsequent rounds. If the Leafs advance, there's a chance for redemption for Kadri.

he's old, slow and looking worse every game. he was hemmed in his own zone for a loooong stretch during the 2nd. a shell of his former self.

if the leafs can continue to target him with their speed, they should win going away.
