From eliteprospects: " A team player with an impressive work ethic. Lilja is an all-round player with good vision and skating skills. Not the most spectacular player around, but he gets the job done and always contributes to his team. "

Sounds like a 3rd / 4th liner

Can never have enough Brylin's though.

Also can we take a moment and appreciate what Lou has done with the Devils.. He took this islanders team without JT and they are going to the second round. We were lucky he was our GM.

I would much rather a player like that in the bottom-6 than Gabriel, Noesen, etc.

He sounds like Macus Johanson to me.

LL was a great GM but his last 6 seasons with NJD were terrible and depleted the farm system and team at one point we were one of the worst teams in the NHL while also being the oldest. not a good combo..

Most of current the NYI did not come through LL and coach BARRY TROTZ deserves more of the credit...
Eberle ,Barzel ,Bailey ,Nelson , Lee , Leddy .Clutterbuck, Boychuck.
Were all there before Lou....

And they were terrible.

Lou undoubtedly implemented his harsh rules and they are working.

also lou depleted the system because he was trying to win with what time we had left with Marty. He was going all out every year.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone point at Lou for the Isles success. I have to disagree but it's an interesting take.

For us, that's why he did it, but that doesn't excuse what he did. Those teams were embarrassingly bad.

According to this, he had 32 points in 38 games (.842 p/g). That means he only had 5 points in his last 14 games (.357 p/g). Might mean nothing or that his breakout was a bit fluky. Who knows. Worth a shot.

From Mickey Mouse club to decades of success....

An extraordinary amount of things went wrong with the Devils. Financial problems, Ownership excreting influence on who to bring in (Kovy), bad drafting, everyone getting old. Losing Parise, Kovy and Clarkson... Penalties and loss of draft picks for signing Kovy, bad coaching in Johnny Mac and unending turnover. Just a ton of poop. Plenty of which you can criticize Lou Lams for but really it seems a little shortsighted considering he's a legit hall of fame builder.

All of this while the style of hockey completely changed on us; and admittedly something Lou didn't react well to. So he signed a bunch of guy that made some sense but everything went bad. It happens.

I put bad drafting at the top of the list. Conte was a joke.

Why people digging at Lou?

Let the results speak for themselves.

He took a sword to the losing cultures in both Toronto and the Islanders; they're both playoff teams now. He's a really good GM at trimming the fat from an org.

He’ll play one season in New Jersey, spending close to half in the press box. Which will send him going back to where he came from the following season.

I think we also need to remember they brought him in for when those guys need to be resigned. Lou is a wiz with cap management, and that cant be understated with an upcoming expansion draft.

Also building a strong culture will help with retention, and as you said that is one of Lou's other strengths. Especially important when dealing with a NY team, nobody wants to pay NYC, NY State, and Federal taxes on a $6mill a year deal without good reason to stay. Otherwise, why not ship out to Dallas, Raleigh, Tampa, ect.

I think people vastly underestimate how much local tax policy influences contract decisions.

I wonder if the Oilers would move RNH and what that would cost. I know he's a center but maybe he can play LW. His contract expires in 2020 and I could see him wanting out of Edmonton. We could run something like this next year..

Hall Hischier Palmieri
RNH* Hughes Bratt
Boqvist Zacha Eberle*
Wood Zajac Coleman

*We also add Eberle and Boqvist is ready to make the team.

lolol I had a dream that I was the NHL deputy guy revealing who won the lottery. I had the list in front of me and some weird foreign team was listed as 1st overall and I was shocked and upset the Devils would miss out on Hughes lol. I don't even remember where NJ was picking on the list.. but it was outside the top 3.

Honest question: is Blackwood considered the starter now? Will Schneider be the starter moving on?

May I respond?
No. He will be prob in two seasons or perhaps midway through next, depending on his play. But he def showed he can play lights out in net.
