Quick response to tonight's conversation:

I still am on board with Grönborg as a possible coach and many experts believe he will be an Nhl coach soon. If they are definitely looking for Nhl experience, my choice would be Crawford. He has only heard that he would be considered in Ottawa after becoming interim coach there. I was never interested in AV or Maclellan. Boucher doesn't interest me either. He's coached two teams that got progressively worse after he was made head coach.

I still think our best target for 2C should be Hayes. He reportedly wanted $6m to extend in NY and they weren't willing to pay that. $6m goes a lot farther in WNY and would not be a killer if he eventually slotted in to the 3C spot when Mitts is ready for the 2C spot.

Watching a few of these series proves what I have said many times. Sabres are too soft of a team to compete with these teams that are having success so far in the playoffs. A lot of talk about how the NHL is all about speed and skill now and that you don't need "tough' guys is BS. You don't need a team of them, but one or two are definitely needed.

My wife loves Rickie. I'm a Phil guy and have been for over 25 years. Tiger is just meh to me but yesterday was quite impressive. I would also say that he caught the perfect storm on the back 9. When Molinari put it in Rae's creek on 12 I said to myself this is now Tiger's time to pounce, and he did. Koepka put it in the water as well on 12 and Cantlay had the lead after 16 but he bogeyed 17 and 18 and he was done. If Koepka made his birdie putt on 18 it could have been a different outcome.

I don't like Tiger at Bethpage but he'll roar at Pebble imo.

Phil is well known for acting like a piece of poop quite often to people.

Risto frustrates the poop out of me. If he played every game like he plays against Kuch & OV (hits them hard every single time he could) I could look past all the bonehead errors that he makes.

Need more than a few.
Need at least 1 for every line.
Now before idiots jump on me, on a top line I'm thinking if talented players with truculence...Tkachuck boys are example A. In the draft, Cozens and Boldy are 2 players I think would look GREAT next to Eichel and Skinner/Olofsson. In fact, Botts should use the late 1st, Nylander, and 2020 2nd (add more) to move-up to get Boldy
As much as I hate him, and now he has a bad history on him, Kadri-type would be a good target for the 2nd /3rd line.
Defense in the future with Borgen and Samuelson hopefully will be ok, and maybe they can add to more edgy Dmen through the drafts.

Pilut is the pepto bismol to Risto's stomach churning low IQ. Once he's in his own end, the guy is a total and complete liability. He needs a player to take all puck carrying assignments away from him. He needs to be the muscle so Pilut can be the brains. And Housley is the useless chick.

There's a reference in there that I hope someone figures out.

He hates Russians apparently.
If they keep him, they should pair him with a Ruskie Dman to keep him constantly on edge.

You'd be moving up 2 tiers (12-19 considered T4) to land a guy like Boldy, considering he's worth the 9-11. The late first, fine. Does Nylander have the value to move up that far? The 2nd is a cherry.

We aren't talking about Matthews, Marner and JT, we are talking about Skinner and Duchene. Hard to say what each are worth but that Stone contract may be an issue for the Sabres and Skinner, IMO Duchene is not worth 10 a year. Skinner 8- 8.5, Duchene 8, then Dahlin and Reinhart, we may be pushing it. We need to dump boat anchor contracts.
- SABRES 89

Boat anchors excluding Okposo all come off next year
Bogosian, Scandella, Sobotka, Hunwick $14.9 million
Sheary is another $3 mill but he's at least somewhat useful

Correct, and I'm not sure what Nylander's value is anymore.
There is a Draft Value chart out there that point to
-the 9/10/11 pick is valued at 600 pts (+/-)
-the 25th is 300 (used 25 for either Sharks or Blues pick we retain)
-the 45th (middle round 2) is about 200...one could assign that value to 2020 2nd...

So, could we assign Nylander's value as a mid-2nd as well?
If so, we would need to get 100 pts back which would be a mid 4th.

2019 25th-sh pick, Nylander, 2020 2nd
For
2019 10th-sh, 2019 4th
(Adjust accordingly)

Let’s just hope the Blues lose and the Avs, Blue Jackets, Stars, and Golden Knights all win and then all of a sudden we are picking in the 16th.

Interesting. Is the chart general or is it on a per year basis

General but based on years of draft and player tracking data.
Google NHL draft value chart ... the 1st 2 listings ... 1 has the research to explain it and the chart, the other just has the chart

The 1st one seems to be the more difficult one, but I'm with you!

Edit: the 16th - 19th would be worth about 365 - 415
The 10th would be like 565
Would then need an additional 150 -200 pts, which would be a mid 2nd down to a mid/late 3rd

Hope for the best

I'm sure the Vancouver Canucks would love to get McCabe and a late 1st for a next year star.

When did Yost start writing for the Buffalo News?

Also I don't hate this idea:

Re-sign Skinner

Skinner Eichel Olofsson
Nylander Karlsson Reinhart

I don't hate it

A few things though:

1) he’s an RFA, so what do we have to trade to get him?
I highly doubt Vegas will just dump the guy cheaply. He still had a pretty good year

2) what’s it cost to sign him?
And does it make sense if we can just sign someone like Hayes for less and not have to give up anything in a trade?

3) where does he slot in 2 years from now, when Mitts has our 2C spit locked down?
And once Mitts starts taking away his offensive opportunities, how much will Karlsson’s numbers drop?
And will those numbers even come close to justifying the contract we’ll have to sign him to this summer?

Kinda seems like an idea I’d pass on when i consider all of the above questions

He only makes sense to me if:
-we trade for him cheap
-he’s willing to sign a reasonable contract
-we build our team with 3 scoring lines & a 4th line defensive unit

Idk if the 1st 2 things are a possibility?
