The more I think about it the more I want Byram with the #3 pick. I think he instantly becomes one of our top 3 defenseman.

Use one of Beaudin/Mitchell + Kahun and a future 2nd/3rd round pick as a great sweetener package to include with Seabrook so we can rid ourselves of his contract and gain the cap space AND improvement on the blue line(ditching Seabs and adding Byram).

Say bye to Kruger, Kunitz, and Ward

Sign Panarin and Tanev

Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Saad-Toews-Sikura
DeBrincat-Strome-Perlini
Caggiula-Kampf-Tanev
Hayden

Keith-Jokiharju
Byram-Murphy
Boqvist-Gustafsson
Forsling/Dahlstrom

Crawford
Delia

That’s a playoff team. Possibly a contender if all that young talent takes a collective step forward.

With three defensemen who've played 38 total games in the show, all of which are 20 or under. Sure, why not.

So 3 of your top 6 defensemen have a combined 38 games of NHL experience with Gus as anothet d-man?

Also what if Seabs doesn't waive his NMC?

They’re ultra talented though, all 1st round picks. Gotta transition to a younger, faster blue line at some point. That time is now IMO. And Gus and Murphy can take on more of a veteran role.

You're in poor company, Boiler! I can't see the team going that route, but they haven't asked my opinion.

Name the last contending team that had 4 defensemen in the top 2 pairings under the age of 22.

Talented versus 17 and 18 year old boys., most of which will never play in the NHL sure. Different story in the NHL playing against men.

Who are the 4 you’re looking at? I only see 2. Keith and Murphy are both part of the top 4 in that proposed lineup. And Gus on the 3rd pair just put up 60 pts.

Jokiharju didn’t look that out of place as a rookie last year. He played lots of minutes too.

And Byram is a stud, I’d expect him to transition to the next level instantly.

I guess we'll expect a lot of 8-6, games. Crow and Delia will be shell shocked by Christmas.

Next summer, when he's a UFA, and not with Chicago.

I've not seen Byram play, so I'll have to take your word on that. I'll stick with my original position that no way they start with that lineup.

You actually think the D will be worse without Seabrook(who has become a train wreck), another year of growth and development for Jokiharju(former 1st round pick), and the addition of Byram(best defenseman in the draft)??

Look other than maybe also going after a vet like Benn or Polak I don’t see a better plan for future blue line success than what I’ve proposed. Get that young talent out there and let it grow. And make no mistake Byram is a true top end young talent, adding him would be HUGE for the future of our Dcore.

Wrong, he just finished his sophomore year so he's not a FA for 2 summers. I thought he was a big Keith fan, why wouldn't he sign with Chicago?

If Bryam is the next Bobby Orr. you convinced me. Get it done Stan.

Edit - and what if Seabrook doesnt waive. How you paying for Panarin this year and Strome and Debrincat next year?

Maybe, but if all you have is youthful speed and no one who knows how to actually play D you have a bigger issue than we have now.

I've been thinking that will all the D assets that we have built up, I wouldn't be surprised (although I'm not advocating for it) if Stan used one of them in a bigger deal. We shall see.

Putting aside your Panarin fantasy (again), from I've read, Heiskanen and Makar, taken with the 3rd/4th picks in the 2017 draft, were thought of more highly than Byram and Heiskanen took one year and Makar two years to get to the NHL.

Others have asked the questions and concerns of:

1) Seabrook has to agree to waive which I highly doubt he does.
2) Even if he's the best D man in the draft and best player available at the #3 spot, Byram is not a sure thing to jump straight to the NHL. Even if he does, he may have growing pains in year one and possibly longer.
3) Does signing Panarin handcuff the team from resigning DeBrincat and Strome not to mention other players?

A concern I have that hasn't been brought up directly is pairing Gustafsson with Boqvist would be a train wreck on the 3rd pair. They're very similar players: high octane offense with unsatisfactory defense. Assuming Boqvist makes the team, they need different partners, i.e. Gustafsson with Murphy and Boqvist with Seabrook. I would not pair either Gustafsson or Boqvist with a rookie like Byram. That's too much pressure on Byram to carry a pair defensively.
