Tanner had a previous article defending the ridiculous contract to Schmaltz. He argued that Schmaltz could develop into a 90-point forward and this contract would then be a bargain.
Fast forward a few weeks...and we have a projected line-up that doesn't even include Schmaltz!! Haha. Oops. Time to hit delete and start over. You can't even make this stuff up. |

In talking to one of the players and discussing the offseason he told me “yeah, for sure. It’d be nice to get another top 6 forward to replace Panik.” We later discussed Hayton and how sick he thinks the kid is.
I’m all for bringing back Lyubushkin and Crouse - but to me you can’t talk about bringing guys back without discussing the number of spots available. Tanner did this for the forwards (without Schmaltz) but excludes the defense. If they move on from a guy like Connauton then they likely just get a later pick back. If they move Chychrun then maybe it’s more of a hockey trade.
My opinion: I would also be fine bringing back Panik for the right price. I think he’s a streaky middle 6 forward who really came alive down the stretch and already knows the system. I would still really like to add Zuccarello who I think would be a good leader for Vinnie, Garland, Keller and would obviously boost our PP and 5v5 scoring |

Panik is an enigma. He can be so good at times and then he disappears. |

Yeah I definitely agree but he was really good for what, the last 6-8 weeks? I’d like to think he figured something out and with a guy like Schmaltz coming back, everyone should get a bit more breathing room especially if Hayton is ready. Bring in a guy like Zucc too and obviously it makes it that much easier
I think the chemistry with Dvorak and Panik is pretty obvious, when Panik is rolling. Chucky-Schmaltz-Vinnie is an obvious first line. If you can get Zuccarello over to play with Stepan and maybe Garland and roll a 4th line of Grabner-Richardson-Crouse or whoever I think now you’re rolling up front. The crease is solidified. Plenty of pairing options for their D. OEL has a rough first half but returned to looking like a #1 defender at times |

has Tanner ever once been right?

Haha. But Orpik was just part of that lucky Caps team. Remember Galchenyuk being better than Domi? Oh yeah, wrong. Galchenyuk isn't even playing center anymore. His entire take on the Coyotes in this post was invalidated because he forgot about 90-point Schmaltz. So naturally he disappears. |

Damn I can't believe I forgot about the guy who played on the Coyotes for two weeks!! |

Zuccerello would be a great addition. I don't think trading Chychrun is the thing to do though, he's been injured and hasn't played until Christmas 2 years in a row. I'd really hate to give up on a 22 year old (*or whatever) until he's had time to develop under healthy circumstances. |

I don't think OEL really had that rough of a first half. He's still an elite top pairing guy. Really underrated. Panik is so good when not scoring, that any scoring is a bonus. I still think that is a very weak first line - it'd be the third line on a team like Toronto, so they're going to need not just one or two top six guys, but an entire first line. Zuccerello is a good start. But they need an elite player. |

Sure. Gloss over it. You portrayed Schmaltz as an exciting rising player capable of getting 90+ points and signed to a great contract. Someone that should have been top of mind for the future of the franchise. But then you forgot all about him.
Would be like a Vegas blogger that forgot about Mark Stone. You know, because he was only on the roster for a short while. Haha. |

Which is fine but I highly doubt that we’re going to get Panarin, Pavelski, and Zucc this offseason. I think Chayka wants to see what he has with guys like Dvorak and Chychrun. Personally, I think Connauton will be the odd man out and we might not sign any meaningful free agent this year. We may just miss the boat and stand pat and continue to develop. If all we did was sign Zucc to a 3 year deal I wouldn’t really be mad. But I was disappointed last offseason when a top 6 forward wasn’t added |

But what would the Leafs want in return? Is this how we get Panik back? |

I believe Andrew Ladd will be made available for a modest return. He could easily be a top 6 forward on a very thin Yotes team! I am sure he will help them reach the floor of the salary cap and take Bolland's place quite nicely. |

can't tell if this is extreme wishful thinking or trolling
you will have to pay for somebody to take Ladd |
