I think I might be sold on Cozens now, but I’d also be happy with Dach or Byram.

DC !!!

Take the shoot first sniper centre with thee speed.

Such a great day, add a gifted forward to that group of young D men thats on the way.

You know the Rangers may (frank) this whole thing up and take the Russian at #2. Kakko falls to 3 to the Blackhawks ? Hockey twitter would go bananas.

There is a lot of time between now and the draft for Bowman to figure out the possibility of Podkolzin playing in the USA next year or the year after. We have seen that there seems to be no set rules for Russian players under contract. Everything is negotiable (under the table or above board). Players get out of contracts one way or another on a regular basis. If Stan can get him here that is the direction I would go.

If he is not a strong option to come over right away there are plenty of C options and Byram really looks good too.

If they drafted Byram he might be able to play in the NHL next year. Keith, Joki, Murphy, Byram, Gus, Seabs, Dahlstrom is not too shabby. With Boqvist, Beaudin, Hillman, Mitchell not far behind the Hawks could be set for years on defense. They would have enough depth that they actually could move one of them in a trade to fill other needs.

The Hawks don't always follow the draft order, even though the top few players seems to be unanimous with all the draft predictions. If the Hawks go off the board and feel their choice will be around later in the draft I'd prefer they try to get additional assests for the 3rd overall.

Could be. Im an amateur. Just love the way that guy plays, love the shoot first mentality so many of these dudes in the NHL so hesitant to shoot the puck. Ability to put the puck in the net and speed to burn. Adding a legit top of the draft center to go with Toews and Strome and all of a dudden the Hawks deep at center again.

But you know Stan, if that top of the draft D man is there he may not be able to resist. Either way its a win win for the Blackhawks

Don't get too far ahead of yourself, there is no reason to think Byram will be ready to step into the NHL as 18 year old. He appears, by the small description of him to be a decent defenseman but nowhere in his past or present is he considered special, like Rasmus Dahllin was. And while Dahlin had a decent year he struggled at times too.

Watched Dach last night... he's a hell of a player too. Don't be surprised if he's in the comversation come June.

How often do we talk about the need for center depth with this team? The Hawks were just gifted something sweet...go out and draft a big frame at center. SO PUMPED!!!!

Lots of scenarios in play... especially if the Hawks have their sights on a player outside of the consensus 1-3, they could deal with a team just down the order for additional assets and still get their man.

All I know for certain, is that those little ping pong balls dialed up my interest in this year’s draft to 11. After that, free agency is just around the corner, take a breath, and then camp opens. This will be a fun off-season.

Dobber prospects agree with you. The name of the game with Byram is potential. Despite being an accomplished producer at the junior level, you can see the potential for so much more. His June birthdate only reinforces that. He’s competing against players who are up to nine months his senior in this 2019 grouping. That’s a tangible difference, especially at this stage of development.

Whoever is fortunate enough to select him in the top 10 this June will be getting a player who is likely two years out from the NHL but has the potential to be a number one defender down the line.

It's going to be a fun few months reading about how all the scenarios play out and who everyone thinks the Hawks should select. Then watch Bowman mess us up and select some guy no one has even talked about

Wow the hawks got extremely lucky last night. The options Stan has for a potential special player . This draft is really strong with forwards, my guess is Stan will take this great opportunity and land himself a center .

The question is who does everyone feel would be that guy?

Posted this right before the new blog came up, question still stands for me. Not sure where these guys stand and how they could effect Stan's focus at 3, or lower.

We've obviously talked about the D prospects and some of the big F's, but what about some of the other prospects we have. Notably Kurashev, Kubalik, Hakkarainen, Slavin, and (about to butcher this) Alty-bumface-yan. I've heard mention of Kubalik next year, but how do the others stack up? I remember when we drafted some of these guys some of the hype around them, and seen some highlight reel plays from a few. Do these pan out to the NHL? Or are they more add-in prospects on deals?

No GM is perfect. But I am a Bowman believer. The main hit on him is the Seabs contract and handing out NMC and NTC clauses. But he has done plenty of good things too. This should be an interesting off season. Bowman has a high draft pick, cap space, some tradable assets (ok mainly prospects and future draft picks).
